Do research on travelocity, expedia, hotels.com and orbitz, but DO NOT RESERVE A ROOM WITHOUT CALLING THE HOTEL FIRST....
A few weeks ago I saw an amazing rate on travelocity - about $200 less per night than what the hotel was charging for the room. I called the hotel on a whim and they matched the rate - which saved me travelocity's service fee (about $150).
And if you call the hotel directly, they're more likely to give you connecting rooms.
I'd also suggest avoiding El Segundo - there's nothing there that will interest the girls. If you don't feel like switching hotels, then find something in LA. You'll all be much happier.
