Hotel Harrington has a web site: www.hotel-harrington.com/ We have never been there, but have reservations to stay there this summer. It is located downtown close to the White House and monuments. The Metro is only 2 blocks away. I asked the reservation desk about safety and they felt it was safe, although they said remember it is a large city.

DO NOT STAY AT THE HOTEL HARRINGTON!! It is a vile pit of a hotel. My co-workers, friends and I feel nothing but pity for people who inadvertently end up there. It is horrible. The area isn't bad and it is so convenient, but there are many other hotels that fit that description. Let me know if you need other ideas or information.

For quite a while I stayed at the Harrington. It has a location central to places many tourists want to go. But two visits ago I was shocked at how far they had let it go down, and my last visit I vowed never to stay there again.

The rooms were small, FILTHY, and cold. Its best feature, its cafeteria, was closed. The sounds of fighting over drugs, pimps, etc. wafte up off the dirty street. The front desk people were rude.

I used to really like this hotel. It was full of high school kids having a great time with their trip-of-a-lifetime to D.C. It is just pathetic what they let happen to it.

My lasts trip there was over Thanksgiving, and I got an $89 a night rate at the Capitol Hilton, including breakfast. Now THAT is a hotel! And a block from the white house.

I would consider trying some of the Internet hotel consolidators for a room. I just reserved a fine one for New Orleans at a very stepp discount from Cheaptickets.com. Also try roomfinders.com and moments-notice.com. You might also check with your airline to see if they have a budget vacation package. Southwest vacations has some great packages, but I don't know if they include D.C.

Good luck!

We joke about the Hotel Harrington...how on paper it sounds terrific...fabuous location...reasonably priced.
I wouldn't stay there if it were free!!
It is a seedy place thatlooks downright depressing.
Listen to the people telling you to stay away. You will be glad you did.

You don't say when you are going or what days of the week. Many hotels have great weekend prices far below their weekday rate. The carlyle suites by Dupont Circle I believe runs a $79 rate on weekends. Can also call 1-800-96hotel to see what discounts they might have. I know visa is doing a promotion in DC and if you have a visa card call 1800-422-8644 to see what kind of deals they might have on hotels. I would also suggest you take up ilisa on her offer to give you guidance.

Thank you everyone who posted a reply concerning Hotel Harrington. It sounded perfect and was recommended by Frommer's. It makes me have a sick feeling to think I chose this place for my family to stay. I'm sorry Anita! Thankfully I have time to make another choice. I'm calling right now and cancelling our reservation. It's to bad they represent themselves differently than what they are. Again thank you!
