hotel for families of 5

Message: Most hotels accomodate only 4 people. Are there any families of 5 that travel and claim they are only 4 to pay for only one room and just ask for a roll-a-way or would that be risking it? What are your thoughts on this?

We did it for years. Always booked a room with double beds and took a couple of sleeping bags. We now have an Aerobed that has the sleeping bag attached. Very handy!!

Many hotels cannot put rollaways in a room with two double beds because of fire regulations and the size of the room. We have run into this regulation at hotels where we used to get a rollaway. Call ahead to check hotel policy. It's not unusual for 3 people to share a room but not want to share a bed.

Are you asking us if we regularly lie to hotels to try and cheat them???!!

My thoughts on this: be honest with the hotel. If none will allow 5 people in a quad, then spring for a suite or two connecting rooms.

meesa, it simply depends on the city. Some cities like Boston, New York, San Francisco and Miami have rooms where there simply isn't enough room to fit another person.

Another factor is the bathroom issue.

We just suck it up and pay for two hotel rooms which means using priceline or shortening our vacations.

It really is a comfort issue.
