Planning to be at Hotel Del for a few days in October with our 2 young children. Have reservations in a Junior Suite with a Partial Ocean View. We would rather not spend the $480.00/night, but want to be comfortable in the room with the kids. Considering changing to a Premier Room or Resort Room. Not sure about the size though. And, we think we would rather stay in the Historic Building? But not sure. Any advice would be appreciated.

We're not all mind readers. Care to tell us on what planet this hotel is located?

Love the Hotel Del Coronado. Three of us stayed in a room (don't know which category) in the historic building and the room was very large. The historic building has more character. My daughter loved the old-fashioned elevator with attendant. My mom enjoyed the shops in the basement. Your questions are reasonable. I would call the hotel and ask them.

You will love the historic Hotel Del in Coronado where the movie "Some Like it Hot" was filmed. Although it has been many years since we last stayed there, our room was in the historic bldg. not the newer rooms which are adjacent in another building. They are quite charming w/sitting room as I recall.

Jarrod, We stayed in an oceanview junior suite for a few nights last year after Christmas. It was a great room, with a nice balcony, but keep this in mind: these aren't suites where there are two separate rooms. There is basically nothing dividing the room. We had a just turned 2 year old (and a 4 year old) at the time and managed to "tuck'' his crib over by the desk, but it still wasn't secluded enough to put him to bed and watch tv or get up early and read the paper. When we were up, he was up! So if you're doing it for the sake of being able to block off the kids and stay up a little later, I'd say it's not worth it. If they're older and will just sleep in the other bed, it might be a different story. We were just there again and didn't opt for the suite. We had a a partial view room in the resort towers. First time we stayed there. We loved it. Huge balcony with a table. Hope this helps.

Hotel DEL is Coronado Calif. for whomever couldn't figure that out.

Jarrod- I spent my wedding night in one of those rooms. It was lovely, and the original hotel is a lot more fun to be in. The only warning I have is that the older rooms have wood walls, and sound travels pretty well between the rooms. If you have really noisy kids and are the type to be concerned over disturbing your neighbors, you might find it kind of stressful.

xxxA, I wouldn't exactly compare the Dels popularity to the Statue ofLiberty.
It's probably more on par with The Fairmont, or the Plaza, or the Waldorf. I would imagine that most people have not heard of the Del, just like most people could not tell you where the Fairmont is located. It's better practice to state the location in your question.

I am aware that the Junior Suite is not 2 rooms, but was wondering if what the hotel calls the Premier rooms are large enough for us to not feel crowded. (That was bad writing) Would rather stay in the historic building, but our 3 year old can be noisy. The post about the wood walls does concern me, we do not want to have disgruntled neighbors. I can only imagine paying $500/night for a room next to a rowdy 3 year old. Any others have the same experience with the rooms not being sound proof. Locals and people who've visited it always call it the "Del" or the "Hotel Del". BTW, it is pronounced as a 3 sylable word ho-tel-del rather than Hotel(pause)del.

I've got some reading suggestions for you. The first is "To the rude morons who troll this forum". The original poster, Linda, might as well have written that directly to you, and Linda isn't me either, you paranoid wimp!

The 2nd is "looking for a luxury resort in the San Diego area". The Del is mentioned 7 times as I write this, and only twice was it mentioned by its full name. Every other poster calls it the Del. The same was explained by posters other than me on this thread. So much for your assertion that it's never called that--your excuse for not recognizing the hotel in the op, thus justifying your snotty reply to Jarrod. Accept that you are wrong, or is that impossible?

I'll let this stand as is. You've dug your own holes and do a great job of getting deeper with each new post.

Let's put it this way: If you don't know what/where the Hotl Del is, then you obviously can't comment on their rooms. Seems to me that Jarrod phrased it exactly right.

Count me in as someone who didn't realize hotel del was the del coronado. I wasn't aware that meant I wasn't a traveler. Thanks for setting me straight.

But seriously, can someone explain some of these postings? I don't see a Bob, or Sue, (though I do see an x) so I don't understand the posting from xxxA. Am I in the twilight zone?
