If you're taking the bus, then you should spend the night in one place or the other, not halfway in between.

Agreed, just stay in Boston, that way you can take the Peter Pan bus to Hyannis the next day.

Hotel rates in Boston are high in September (and many may not book a Friday night only stay), whereas rates toward/on the Cape would be much more reasonable. But, you will arrive too late to take a bus.

You may want to try Hotwire or Priceline for a Logan hotel (keeping in mind that hotels in those areas are not necessarily right at the airport) and take Peter Pan from there to Hyannis the next day. But, you still need to get from there to Hyannisport. It's about five miles and there are taxis.

Any reason you don't want to rent a car? Whenever I've used Hotwire, car rentals are offered at ridiculously low rates, and dates do not have to match your hotel stay.

Plymouth & Brockton bus line has runs from Logan Airport to Hyannis at 9:15 and 11:25 PM, and might add one in between for their summer schedule. However, since the bus takes 2 hours from the airport (but 90 minutes from South Station) and thus willis would probably arrive in Hyannis at 1:30 AM, a Boston hotel would make more sense.

I agree that renting a car would make even more sense, given the high bus fares and the flexibility that a car would offer.

We travel from Hyannis to Boston and return quite frequently.

Do not try to go to Hyannis on arrival at night. If your plane is late, you will miss the bus, and there are no intermediate stops with access to a hotel. You do not want to check into a hotel in Hyannis at 1:30 AM. Priceline does really well for 4 star hotels at the airport. We have never had to pay more than $100.

If you do not want to drive, the P&B bus is a good option, $41 round trip per person. You will need to pay in cash when you get on. It begins very early in the morning and leaves Terminal A at 15 minutes before the hour.

Taxis are readily available at the bus station in Hyannis to take you to a final destination in the area.

If you are going to be in Hyannis for two days and there are two of you, a rental car -- if you bargain or use Hotline when reserving -- will only be a bit more expensive than the bus. The daily rate will be about the same as taking the bus (+/- $42), but you will have to pay tolls ($3.50) and fuel (+/-$3.15 per gallon). If there are more than two of you, it is cheaper to rent a car.

If you are on the Cape for a vacation as opposed to an event like attending a wedding, a car is really necessary to see sites, dine, go to the beach.
