Hi,

We are two friends travelling from Australia to New York at the end of August and are looking for a one bedroom apartment with a pull out sofa (one of us snores) and a kitchen or Kitchenette because we will be there for 22 nights. 29th august until 20th september.

I cannot tell what hotels have this sort of facility and was hoping that someone could recommend one that they have stayed at, we are also on a bit of a budget.

There are quite a few of these, but they will be fairly expensive for 22 nights, particularly since your trip goes into September, which is high season when rates usually double. More important, you are making a last-minute booking, and all the best cheaper places are long sold out. If you are on a budget, I'm not really sure you're going to find something within your price range, and I think you will need to look beyond Manhattan. In Manhattan you may very well not find a hotel with a kitchenette under $300 per night in September.

Take a look at Radio City Apartments, but this is probably already booked solid. You are making a relatively last-minute booking here.

Many of the Affinia hotels have this set up but can be much more expensive (over $400 per night for such rooms). And there are others, though keep in mind that some of these are not full kitchens but rather just a microwave and mini-fridge.

I don't have any concrete recommendations for you, unfortunately. Hopefully someone else will.

Try the Salisbury -- not a full kitchenette but they do have microwaves, mini-fridges and one bedroom apartments with pull out sofas. I should add, this was three or four years ago so please double check that this is still the case.

Agree with Doug if you'retalking about this August, last minute, long stay and mostly Sept. dates will make this very expensive. A less expensive option would be staying just outside Manhattan. Country Inn &Suites in Long Island City has some 1 bedroom suites. I think the Comfort Inn in LIC does as well. The Box House Hotel on the border of Brooklyn and Queens has suites with kitchens.

There's a Homewood Suites in Edgewater, New Jersey that I believe has 1 bedroom suites. Not as easy a commute as from Long Island City, but possible. The Sheraton Lincoln Harbor in Weehawken is another option. Yet another idea is this apartment in NJ if it's available.

short term apt rentals are legal in New Jersey. You could do that.

If you look in Jersey be sure you understand the time and cost of a commute - and what hours the transit runs. You can find yourselves an hour from the city -but if you find an apt that is not a scam they are legal there for short-term sublets (unlike NYC).

It would really help if you told us your actual budget. 'A bit of a budget' could mean anything.

There is a Staybridge Suites on West 40th. It has kitchens, two double beds, free breakfast and free wifi, but the rate is $287. Not sure how that fits your budget.

For this time of year - and at such a late date - $287 is a deal.

HI Hostels generally have kitchens to prepare food. The dorm rooms have bunk beds and the showers and rest rooms are down the hall. Probably not what you are looking for but somewhat less than $120/night.
