Mostly just answering to try to keep this query up near the top == for someone who really knows...

I think this is a re-vamped heart-of=the=Loop hotel (formerly the Bismarck and the pastry into which the daily Democratic creme was stuffed....but that was then...).

Anyway, it's location isn't anything special unless you're attending something IN the Loop area, otherwise, you're better off spending your $$$ to be on, or near, the Mag Mile....

I haven't stayed there either since I live here. It is in the middle of the business district which is great for the business traveler but not close to anything for the leisure traveler. The business district more or less shuts down after 6:00 pm so there aren't a lot of restaurants close by and you'd be well advised to take a cab after dark. It looks like they've put some money into the hotel, it used to be the Bismark Hotel as the previous poster told you.

I stayed at the Hotel Allegro last year for a business meeting. The renovation was very well done and I was impressed with the interior selections. The area was under a great deal of construction at the time. For business, the location is fine; several nice restaurants within a short walk. For pleasure, however, I prefer something closer to Michigan Avenue or the Gold Coast.

Ken, I'm a displaced Chicagoan who goes home a few times a year. I stayed at this hotel last summer soon after the renovation. It's nice, but the loop's not the most fun/interesting place to be. I'd recommend checking out the hotels at 8888hotels.com. They have really low rates for very good hotels in the loop and near mag mile. For example, the Sutton is gorgeous and it's only $155 this month through 8888hotels.com. (I'll be staying there this month myself.)

I've stayed at Hotel Allegro a couple of times in the past year. It's a nice hotel but the rooms are small. The location is best if you are doing business in the loop. I've been staying at the Summerfield Suites. It's a good location, the rooms are much larger, and it's a good rate.
