Honua Kai, Maui

Does anyone have any info on this rather new resort? there is only one review on trip advisor so far ( a very good one), and their prices seem to be pretty good. Plus the all new amenities appeal to me.

but there is not much info out there. Has anybody seen the property? have any info at all about it?

thanks!

I should have added a link:
http://www.honuakaimaui.com/

I can get an ocean view, 1 br suite for $250/night which seems like quite a bargain. It appears to be located pretty far north, perhaps next to the Westin.

Any comments on the location would be welcome.

It looks further north than Westin to me. In fact, in the video, it looks like it's next door to where we stayed, Maui Kai. The price looks good though, as Maue Kai is aged ( but we liked it) & it's prices have gone up!
It looks large & it looks nice, from what I can see.

Westin was south of Whaler's, if I remember correctly & the Sheraton at Black Rock (my reco if you had children) looked to be the end of the paved walk along Ka'anapali - is this correct?

the biggest issue I have with the resort, is it does not seem to have a restaurant as yet. does anyone know the area well enough to know if we will have far to go to find nice places for dinner? I'm trying to tell if anything might be walking distance.

the rack rates for this place appear to be $600/night, so it really is a great price. But no restaurant, and construction going on right next door still makes me hesitate. Apparently the beach is really nice, good snorkelling, and often empty for now.

Frank, yes, what did you think of it? Did you see any units? I'm interested to know what the studios were like. The plan I saw on line had them nestled into the corners of the giant U-shaped building, which makes me suspicious that any of them can be called "Ocean View" as opposed to "Partial Ocean view"

Also, what sort of dining/amenities are open there? I think there is a cafe. Is there a bar? anything else?

thanks!

It's across the street from the sewer plant.

China,

One building is complete, the other is still under construction so there will be some construction traffic and some noise. The Lobby is HUGE and contains a cafe and store. Its a nice cafe but not fancy dining, so its fine for a quick meal. The pool is really nice, and they complex has convenient access to the beach across a short walkway while maintaining some privacy for the pool area. I would consider the studios ocean view, as I have been given 'ocean view' rooms at many properties with less view. It should be a nice property when its all done.

One Caveat: The U shape at night allows people in the Courtyard to see inside lower floor units without the drapes closed

Marginal,

Ive never experienced the sewer plant smell at the property, unlike what you will on the golf course near Whalers Village.

You will need to drive about 3/4 mile or so to get to all the great restaurants at Kaanapali Beach. The best snorkeling nearby will be at Black Rock year round or Honolua Bay in summer.
