Honolulu restaurants/Let's get back to topic please!!
First, can anyone suggest cheap to mod. priced restaurants in or around Waikiki (I've heard Waikiki is pricey)? Thanks!
=========================================
Now........
Only weeks ago I was reading through this message board and there wasn't all this bickering!
I really didn't want to add another one of 'those' messages but its getting too ridiculous!
This is supposed to be about Hawaii and not about this Heidi travel agent person or any other travel agents!
If there's a problem, take it up w/ the site administrator, not in the messages about Hawaii - specifically to the mystery poster who never uses his/her real name/e-mail address (CHILL OUT and find something better to do w/ your time than attacking every other person who posts a message!) If you don't have something to say about Hawaii, don't add messages! We can decide for ourselves whether info is helpful or advertising!
I have spent lots of time researching for my first ever vacation which happens to be in Honolulu for a week! There is some good info but several messages start out as legit questions and get turned into battles! I have had to sift through too many of those unwanted messages!! I just want to research in PEACE!! Please NO MORE! Thanx.

Nana,
Actually, Waikiki is cheaper, overall, than the restaurants elsewhere on Oahu and the other islands, because there is so much competition! I don't know what "cheap to moderate" means to you - do you mean "Burger King to Chart House" or more money than that? We can better help you if you state dollar amounts! But believe me, you will find plenty of coupons in airport circulars, etc., for discounts at restaurants of all kinds. You also can buy the Entertainment book for Hawaii ($30), and they have half-price coupons for some excellent restaurants on Oahu. If you're spending all your time on Oahu, the E. book can save you a bundle on food & activities (that you would probably spend money on anyway!) Have a great trip!
By the way, I agree with you on the wacko posting against the travel agents. I am more tired of him/her than I ever was of Maui Heidi/ Scott, etc., and I was REAL TIRED of them!
Aloha!

In Waikiki there's a lot to choose from. All price ranges along with a wide variety of cuisines. Perry Boy's Smorgy is a reasonably priced all you can eat. Also, a new buffet restaurant called Todai's is getting noticed as a popular spot. There are many smaller stands that offer good food at reasonable prices. But, the best selection for meals under $10 per person is the Makai Marketplace in Ala Moana Center. A food court mall establishment with lots of Hawaii style. Reasonable meals in/around Waikiki is not a problem. But do avoid the Denny's on Kuhio Ave and the International Marketplace food court if you want good value. Hope this helps! Lottie

Nana, do a search for "Oahu restaurants", then scroll down to #5 "restaurants in Waikiki/Honolulu", and you'll find my past suggestions as well as others and a list from a local person. And once you get to Hawaii, besides using the E book (which we always do) pick up all the free booklets and brochures
located all over (in hotels, on stands on the steeet etc. baggage claim) and check out the early bird specials as well as the"second dinner 50% off" coupons.

My suggestion for all O'ahu travelers: venture out of Waikiki! Honolulu is a great place to eat, and you'll have fun discovering all the different neighborhoods, and the proliferation of wonderful restaurants we have.
The Zagat web site at zagat.com gives you lots of Honolulu options (click on Hawaii), although you will have to navigate around a bit. I recommend Auntie Pasto's for Italian, they just opened a new restaurant in Kapahulu, not far from Waikiki. There are so many options, that based on your taste, that eating here should be an adventure!
We like Chiang Mai for Thai, but all Thai restaurants are fairly reasonable and generally good. The Kakaako Kitchen recently opened up a new location at Ward Center, where you can get upscale plate lunches. On the north shore, there's a great plate lunch cart near Pupuukea, and Kua Aina Burgers are not to be missed, either in town or in the North Shore.
For a broader selection, I too, like the list that our Fodorite friend posted earlier and Cheryl referred you to above. I've cut and pasted that list on this forum myself. You can also check restaurant reviews at honoluluweekly.com and read Nadine Kam's column in the Star Bulletin. Nice to have a fun topic in this forum again.
Bon Appetit!
