Honolulu: Island-Style Takeout

I always enjoyed getting some food to go for picinics and such to enjoy the outdoors. This is an old list of mine - would appreciate feedback/updates/additions.

Ebisu Catering Service: 1915 S. King.

Fukuya: 2710 S. King St. 946-2073.

Gulick Delicatessen: on a residential street in Kalihi, 1512 Gulick Ave.

Kaka'ako Kitchen: Ward Centre, 1200 Ala Moana Blvd. 596-7488.

Kua 'Aina Sandwich Shop: Two locations: Ward Village, 1116 Auahi St.

Kwong On: 3620-A Wai'alae Ave. 734-4666.

L&L Drive-Inn: Classic plate lunches. Multiple locations.

Liliha Bakery: 515 N. Kuakini St. 531-1651.

Mitsu-Ken Okazu-ya: Kamehameha Heights, 1223 N. School St. 848-5573.

Rainbow Drive-In: Just off Kapahulu Avenue at 3308 Kanaina Ave. 737-0177.

Sugoi: in Kapalama, 1286 Kalani St., Suite 106. 841-7984.

Teddy's Bigger Burgers: 3114 Monsarrat Ave., Waikiki. 735-9411; and 539 Kailua Road, Kailua, 262-0820.

All these places are still around, a pretty good list of favorite local places. I heard Teddy's closed their Monsarrat location and opened in Waikiki, they also have a branch in Hawaii Kai now. Gulick Deli is still going strong and is the best of the okazuya's mentioned, they did change the way the line moves since you've last been there, more orderly now. Looks like you have some good eating to catch up with.

Diamond Head Market and Grill: deli/gourmet arket/bakery/okazuya/fast-food shop. 3158 Monsarrat Ave. 732-0077. 7:30 a.m.-9 p.m. daily. No reservations. VS, MC, AX, DS. No checks.

Well, of course there's Zippy's, all over the place. A bunch of really good bento take out places have sprung up along Keeaumoku Street, on the right hand side as you drive from Ala Moana Center toward the mountains.

Caryn's Okazuya on 1270 Young Street is also one of my faves, as is Sakura near the Aiea post office (sorry, I can't find the address).
