Honolulu advice

We are only going to be in Honolulu for just two days in February. We are going to visit Pearl Harbor but what other 'must see' sites should we not miss?

Thanks for your help!

Where will you be staying? There's much to see and do on the island and it all depends on your interests. From the lights of Waikiki, to Chinatown, Honolulu has great restaurants, interesting museums, and accessible beaches to offer. You can kayak and horseback ride at Kuuloa, there will be whale watching off Makapuu and huge waves off the north shore. I suggest you check gohawaii.com as a starting reference point. Have a fun trip and don't forget the sunscreen, even in february!

Suggest you hike Diamond Head as early in the AM as possible, it can get very hot there afterwards drive along the coast to the north shore check out beaches and Dole stand.

If you have a car, drive up the Tantalus. The views of Diamond Head, Waikiki and the coast are breathtaking!

I agree with Crys: that the Tantalus view is amazing. I'm thinking that is Round Top Mt Road? I also would not miss the Pali Lookout view point. It is unforgettable on a windy day.

I always take one day to drive around the island. If you leave Waikiki and head in the direction of the Pali Highway you can take a counter clock-wize trip that puts you at the Dole Pineapple Plaza late afternoon. They have a hedge maze that is great for kids or just a different experience for anyone. It will be hot after the maze and they have the most delicious Pineapple Sorbet you can't miss it.

Have fun!

For one of the days, like JohnD, I recommend hiking Diamond Head in the morning. Bring some water to cool off and your camera for great pics of the Waikiki landscape. Then I would (I did) go to Waikiki beach to relax and cool off. You can walk down the long stretch of beach for some more great pics. I would top the night off with a sunset dinner at Duke's Canoe Club Restaurant on the beach. Try making a reservation for better seating. Shopping is all over the area to do at your leisure. If you do go to the Renaissance Wailea as posted in another thread, you will notice the difference in how peaceful it is in Wailea. There are really no crowds there except at maybe a luau. So if you wanted to experience some nightlife, your days in Honolulu are the days to do it. Enjoy!

Try driving east from Waikiki on the H1, stoping at Diamond Head and hiking up it in the morning. Keep going to Hanauma Bay, which has some of the best snorkeling in Hawaii, and then to the Halona Blow Hole, just up the road. The Blow Hole is a really cool site, not to be missed. Up ahead from there, go to the Sea life Park. Continue on to Kailua or Kaneohe. Both verry pretty little towns along the eastern coast. They have good swells at Kailua for surfing, a little calmer in at Kaneohe. Finally, cut over on Highways 61 or 63, over the Mountians, which offers great views of Kaneohe and Honolulu. From there it drops you back down into the city.
