My vote is for Hawaii. I honeymooned there 14 years ago. One week in Maui & one week in Kauai. Definetly tons to do if you want to. Maui has the Haleakala crater, great sites, helicopter Tours,luaus. I loved Maui so much that I didn't think Kauai could be as nice, WELL, when I arrived in Kauai I thought I died & went to heaven! LUSH tropical paradise. Waimea Canyon, the secluded secret beaches,waterfalls, canyons and jungles. Stayed at the westin resort & spa in Maui & Kauai. Do it now if you have the money! I could only DREAM of going back, but a mortgage & 2 kids later I'll be lucky if I can get back for my 50th anniversary!

You will definitely not be bored in Hawaii. My BF and I were in Maui for 9 days and barely had any time for just sitting on the beach reading trashy novels.

Hawaii is like having the best of both worlds...the tropical splendor and exotic culture with all of the convenience of being at home. That being said, if BF and I ever take the plunge...my vote would be to get married first in Kauai and then head to Tahiti for the honeymoon.

If you are looking for an exotic place or somewhere that you may never return to here are some palces to consider.

We loved Australia (Cairns, and Sydney). Great Barrier Reef, tropical rain forest, crocodiles, great hotels, city life. There are several vacation packages which may include a combo of Cairns, Sydney, New Zealand, or the interior. We loved Cairns and Sydney but they are more similar to America.

Dont know if you have thought of airfare options, but may consider getting airfare into/out of Japan. I lived in Japan for 2 years (travelled to Australia, Hong Kong, Korea, Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia). We flew to Australia from there and had a 2 day lay over in Hong Kong to see that city as well. Lots of time in the airplane but you could see several different places and have some great memories. (Cathay Pacific)

We honeymooned in French Polynesia (Moorea and Bora Bora). Very expensive but exotic and luxury everywhere. Can be hard to find a lot to do, but many packages take you to several islands for a few days which should easily be filled. We swam with sharks, did sunset sailing cruise, restaurant hopped, island tour, etc.

In regard to previous mention of Singapore. I disagree with it as a honeymoon destination. Seems that shopping was the main activity and there didn't seem like a lot of romance or other activities to do. It was the most "western" feeling of many of the countries in Southeast Asia.

I agree with seatheworld that Singapore didn't seem very romantic, but, for those who want an urban experience as part of their honeymoon and are looking for something that bridges "exotic Asia" with "familiar and easier", I think Singapore is a good destination. There's definitely more to do than shop: one of the best things to do is explore the streets of the different ethnic communities. You can experience a bit of India, Malaysia, China etc and taste their food. It has an amazing zoo (especially the night safari), interesting museums (including special exhibits focusing on WWII), and nearby islands where you can taste a bit of resort life. You can afford luxurious hotels and, yes, you can shop a lot.

I'd pick Bangkok over Singapore, but for a couple who are a looking for something a little tamer, Singapore is worth considering as part of a honeymoon. It would be a good place to ease into an exotic Asian honeymoon. It would probably keep you busy for 3-6 days, so you should combine it with something else (e.g. Japan as you mentioned) or a bit of beach resort.

i'll put my vote in for thailand. specifically, a trio of adventures bangkok (or if you want a less hectic city, but smaller try chiang mai), chiang saen and phuket (or koh samui if you are worried about post-tsunami on phuket). chiang saen is near the border of the golden triangle and if you stay at anantara resort you couldn't dream for a better honeymoon spot. having been to 3 islands of hawaii, twice, it's absolutely lovely as well. however, you will get more for your money in thailand, the culture is something you'll never experience elsewhere, the people are the friendliest, and experience never to be forgotten! oh yes, the food! at least give the asia board a try happy honeymoon! btw, phuket is in excellent shape as i just returned, by october you should have no worries.

No brainer- Bangkok and one of the seaside resorts.

Since 2000, I've been to Hawaii four times and to Thailand twice (also visited China). I would choose Thailand. It is a very easy country to visit and the people are very friendly and kind. The beaches of Southern Thailand (Krabi/Railay) are gorgeous. I love Hawaii too, but one of my favorite places in the world is southern Thailand. We have some photos posted at our website.
