Getting married 8/21 & hadn't planned on a honeymoon....

My fiance and I are getting married 8/21 and were planning to take a honeymoon in the winter, but are changing our minds at the last minute.

Any suggestions on where to go? Any good deals out there that you're aware of? We'd like to spend about $1300/person.

We're pretty much open to whatever (except someplace cold - we live in Chicago, we get plenty of that!) and have Marriott points we could use.

Thanks in advance!

If you want something fun, exotic and romantic consider Thailand. The airfares are high to get there but once there the costs are low for hotels, food and souvenirs. You'll want to return many times to experience all it offers.

Where can you use your Marriott points? I like Oahu (Honolulu/Waikiki) aor Maui and think either would make a romantic honeymoon destination. Hawaii's very easy to plan on short notice.

How long are you planning to be gone? I ask, because Thailand is a LONG way to go if it's for only a short trip.

Koh Samui is nice with really nice romantic hotels for something different. The Santiburi resort with private cottages is nice. Consider If you have Marriott points the Phuket Marriott is a GREAT spot to use them!

Chiang Mai is everything exotic with many top hotel options but the prices are high.

There is a Wailea Marriott Maui that sounds ok, but from what I read, doesn't have a beach. Hawaii w/no beach? Crazy!

Hadn't looked for Marriott properties in Thailand yet. Thank for the idea.

How about Aer Lingus vacation in Ireland.

http://www.travelzoo.com/cruises/caribbean/ How about a cruise?

How about Napa Valley CA or Santa Rosa CA?

Try going to Apple vacations and check out their last minute deals. Should be able to get an AI somewhere tropical in that price range. Congrats too. Larry

Thanks to all. I think we've narrowed it down to either the Cayman Islands or Playa del Carmen. Found great deals in both spots...now just need to decide which one.

You will find GC alot more $$ when you get there in terms of dining out. However its very nice and the beaches are great. PDC will be easier on the wallet once you arrive and from there there is a ton of fun stuff to do if you like to be active. You can;
Go to the ecological parks of Excaret and Xel-ha
Go to Cozumel and/or Isla de Mujeres via ferry.
Go to the Mayan ruins of Chitzen itza and/or Tulum, the latter being quite close by.
Go into Cancun if you wish.
Or just hang out and relax. I don't think you will have that many options in GC but it depends on what you like to do. Have a fun time. Cheers, Larry
