I'm just making an educated guess here, but IF you were somehow able to actually get in front of it and had someone take a picture, one of two results would occur:
1] If they were close enough to take the picture and then someone looking at the picture could actually tell it was you, there would be no identifiable part of the sign visible; maybe just some white background.
2] If they got the entire sign in the picture [which if memory serves, you'd have to be pretty far away to get it all in the frame] you would never recognize the people in the picture or maybe even not be able to see them.
Take a postcard photo, take a photo of yourselves and use photoshop to superimpose them.

But really, ( as far as I can remember) we were on the other side of the highway in the hills, it is difficult to get close and be able to get a good shot of it.
