Hollywood, Florida Beach

What's the beach area like near the intersection of Hollywood Blvd. and A1A? How clean is the sand and is the water calm or rough?

The sand is clean and the beach is nice. I go often to rollerblade there. The water is not usually rough but there are always waves. The beachfront in Hollywood is fronted by a "broadwalk". There is no road that runs along the beach, like Ft Laud or SoBe. Instead there is a walkway that you can bike/walk/rollerblade with storefronts along the walkway.

OK someone help me out with a name here. There's a beach off A1A not far from Hollywood (my grandmother lived in Hollywood and we went to this beach all the time). It's actually a state park and manatee refuge so it's beautifully maintained and it's frequented by lots of Canadians (at least it was back in the 80s). Sorry I can't seem to come up with the name...someone should know it!

to xax: It is called BROADWALK, not BOARDWALK. A Boardwalk is made of wood and this is not made of wood. The Hollywood broadwalk is pavement. To Karen: Lloyds beach in Dania Beach sounds like what you were talking about. It is part of John Lloyd State Park and there are alot of Canadians in the South Broward Beach area including Dania, Hollywood, Hallandale.

Michelle, have you taken a good look at the "new" Westin Diplomat Hotel? What do you think?

Specatacular! The new Diplomat has really put the incing on the cake in the redevelopment of Hollywood and Hallandale Beaches. I have not been in the rooms but I attended the Grand Opening Gala and the lobby and rooms are beatiful. I would say it is one of the nicest resorts in South Fla. Once the contruction finally finishes on A1A in that area, it will rival Fort Lauderdale.

Michelle, is The Diplomat on the beach?
Do you know if they have suites or just rooms?

I live right down the street from the Diplomat Hotel & Spa. It is right on the beach & yes, they have suites.

Thanks, Michelle. But what do you mean by "once the construction finally finishes?" Is there also some kind of "building boom" going on near the Westin--more condos, shops, etc.?

So where does everyone think I should stay now for an upcoming trip -- Turnberry Isle or the new Westin?

Are there 2 Diplomat hotels in the area? I read an AAA review yesterday that said the Diplomat Country Club & Spa is located " just off the waterway & surrounded by a golf course." It said it had 2 small outdoor pools but no beach! But Marcia above ought to know b/c she lives down the street & she said it was on the beach!!! So can someone pls help me out here!

Suaan, they are considered part of the same "complex," but they are two separate properties! The Westin Diplomat is the brand new, ocean front highrise, while the the Diplomat Country Club is just that--the adjoining country club (golf/spa) just around the corner from the new Westin highrise!

My family stayed at the Westin Diplomat before and after a cruise this past April and it was one of the nicest hotels I have ever stayed in. The pool area is beautiful. The service was great and the rooms were unbelievable, we loved it.
