Hilton Head/ Charleston How many nights each?

We had planned on 4 nights in Hilton Head and 2 in Charleston. Should we change to 3 nights each?? We will be there the week of April 20. We are 50/no kids.
Thanks!

It depends on what you want to do. If you want to lounge around or play golf, spend time in Hilton Head.

I personally prefer Charleston. Good food, plantation and swamp tours, and some great buildings to check out.

I think Nina has got it backwards - if you want to be active go to Hilton Head. When we go (late 40's & also no kids), we like to go for runs on the beach, bike ride, canoe (there's a great lagoon system in Palmetto Dunes)or kayak. Last trip we rented a motor boat and explored the sound around Harbor Town. Of course, HH is known for the great golf and tennis - we just don't do those. It is also great to just relax on the beach. I also love Charleston. You could see lots of it in 2 days. Savannah (another great city) is an easy day trip from Hilton Head (less than an hour). Enjoy - the weather in April is magnificent.

When you get to Hilton Head try my 2 favorite restaurants, both have great food...
more intimate...CQ's
more action...2-11 park Wine Bar

While I am the board's "expert" on Hawaii I do know many things about the South Carolina coast.

Charleston versus Hilton Head are two very different places. It is resort versus historical. Hilton Head has great golf, beaches and fine restaurants. It is also quieter and more secluded and peaceful. Charleston is a walking around town sort of trip with a myriad of historical sites. There are great art galleries in Charleston. You will not lounge around in Charleston. There are more fine restaurants in Charleston than Hilton Head. Charleston has excellent golf but not as many courses as Hilton Head.

The choice is an urban versus resort vacation. Chocolate versus vanilla.

Personally I would opt for 5 nights Hilton Head and 1 night Charleston.

Best restaurants? Charleston:Magnolia's and Carolina's. Hilton Headtripes and CQ's.

There, you have your answer.
