I keep reading in old threads that some of the best hiking is in the Beartooth area, but I have not seen any particular hikes mentioned. Which hikes (day hikes-not overnight) would you recommend and where they are located? Thanks!

That's a tough one because there are so many. You could start with Glacier Lake. It's a mile uphill. Another would be the trail out of the Island Lakes campground (may have to ford two streams depending on when you go). There are several lakes. Night, Beauty, Crane and some I won't divulge off the main trail. Mystic Lake out of the Stillwater drainage is very pretty. The trail to Albino lake is about a 5 miler at a little over 10,000 feet. You're welcome. I found a Topo of the area which was interesting for me to see. Brings back many memories. I'm off to the Cascade Range out of Bend, Or. and then on to the Sawtooths in Idaho in two weeks! Really excited!

OK Gal, Moving on to the Teton's. The hike up to Lake Solitude from Hidden Falls is nice. On the way out, walk to Moose ponds and then to camp. In Yellowstone, Near Soda Butte there are two great hikes with a fishing rod. Slough creek (5.5 km in there is a great pool). Be sure to take along Bug spray (back,legs)in any hike here. The other is Cache creek. In both hikes the will be a variety of animals. If they tell you that Slough Creek is closed (at the gate)it's because the Rangers want the place to themselves! They have a cabin and horses near the first meadow!On both hikes you must be alert.
