Hiking in United States

I've been pretty much everywhere I wanted to go, I think. Grand Canyon, Yosemite, Zion, Capitol Reef, Bryce, and many more, Acadia, Smokey Mountains, Mount Washington, etc.. I'm going to Yellowstone and Glacier National Park in 2 weeks.

I'm looking for something new and exciting. I like to fly fish and hike. I'm not interested in flying to a park just to see a waterfall and leave. I don't like cruises. I prefer viewing by land and foot.

Does anyone have any unique suggestions? Places around the US I may not have thought of where I can do some great hiking and fly fishing?

Also, I've been to many states except Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Kansas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Illinois, Chicago, Ohio, Michigan, Minnesota, North/South Dakota and Idaho. Are there any unique site seeing opportunities there even if its not hiking or fly fishing?

When you are at Yellowstone, drive north and fly fish the Madison River.
What about Alaska for next time? We fly fished in the Kenai River, amazing large rainbow trout.
Hike north of there in Girdwood.

Oregon has many opportunities for hiking and fly fishing.
One of my favorite spots in the world is the Metolious River area - there is hiking and fly fishing in the same area

The Sawtooths in Idaho, Wind Rivers in Wyoming. South eastern Utah is awesome for hiking but not so much fly fishing.

Plenty of good fishing along the Deschutes River anywhere upstream of Bend Oregon. There are good trails along the river as well.
For Washington, try the Cowlitz River south of Mt. Rainier and east of Packwood.
There is a Forest Service (25) road that goes from Randle (US 12) to White Salmon along the Columbia River. This road is on the east side of Mt. St. Helen.

In CA, we have tons of great hiking outside the National Parks. Check out the Lakes Basin area around Sierra City.

Ditto for: Wind River Range, Wyoming. I will not anger my tight-lipped fishing buddies by offering up names of lakes, but I will say the scenery anywhere in the heart of the Winds is astounding.

During our tour of the northwest last year, we spent a few days in Mt. Rainier National Park. I wished we'd had a few more days to explore the park. The "Paradise" area of the park lived up to it's name. The Skyline Trail was spectacular. If we are ever able to return, I think we would go a little earlier in the year to see the wildflowers in full bloom, they were near the end of life when we were there:

Is this your first trip to Glacier? It's probably my favorite national park in the country. It's truly a hiker's paradise. If you're looking for trails that are less crowded, check out Cracker Lake, Piegen Pass and Swiftcurrent Pass. Most people tend to stick with the ranger led hikes, but as long as you carry bear spray and make your presence known, these trails should not be a problem.
