Hiking in Oregon / Washington State

Hi,

Looking for recommendations for great hiking trails in Oregon / Washington State.

Current plan is to drive between Portland and Seattle with stops in Willamette and Olympic National Park.

Any amazing trails in and around this region? (2 young fit couples, challenging terrain is fine if possible)

thanks,
j.

We really enjoyed Eagle Creek Trail in Columbia River Gorge. Just outside of Portland.

Might want to consider some hikes in Mt. St. Helens and Mt. Rainier.

Cascade Pass/Sahale Arm Trail in the North Cascades has long been on my radar.

This is still really too broad to answer with real useful information. What time of year is the most important thing. Hiking here is great, and there are way too many great trails to list without knowing mileage and elevation gain that you prefer. I am a hiker, and DH also mountain climbs, so I am being cautious in not giving you our favorite trails without knowing more about you.

A couple places to check out that will help you narrow down what you like include the Mountainers as HTTY mentioned (they are the WA hiking/climbing group) as well as the Mazama's (OR based similar group) at www.mazamas.org. A good site for trail information for WA is www.wta.org. Another site that is forum based is www.nwhikers.net. This last site is mostly geared towards WA, but many members hike in OR as well so there is some information for that, but just not as much.
