hikes around carmel

I'll be in Carmel tomorrow adn wonder about hikes in the area--as I recall, I have seen people talk about the park just south of carmel--adn isn't there a hike in big sur to a waterfall? any recommendations?

The park you refer to is probably Point Lobos State Park. We enjoyed a hike there a few years ago.

The park in Big Sur is probably Julia Pfeiffer Burns State Park. There's a hike/walk of maybe a half-mile, back under the road, that leads to McWay Falls. A truly spectacular view! Go to http://community.webshots.com/user/bookhall and find the Big Sur to Monterey album--there's a picture there.

You might be thinking of Overlook trail and the falls that drop straight into the ocean in Julia Pfeiffer Burns state park in the Big Sur area, though there are some others as well. I think there is also a waterfall on the Big Sur river (I seem to remember a pretty steep climb beside it on a backpacking trip into Ventana wilderness many years ago).

I'm going to San Fran next week but only have a full day for myself.

Is it worth taking the time to go there from San Fran to see the scenery?

If you only have a day, and don't spend it in the City, I'd suggest the Monterey/Carmel area. The Big Sur area needs more time. And the drive can be daunting, particularly as you'd be going both ways.
