We have just been notified by Hilton about the mold problem at Hilton Hawaiian Village. They have rebooked us at the Hawaii Prince Hotel Waikiki. Is this hotel comparable?

this is a first time occurance as far as I know. It was written about in the Starbulletin. I doubt it is comparable to the Hawaii Prince if memory serves that is not even on the beach. I would call and try to book Royal Hawaiian Village or Sheraton Moana. A former hilton out on North Shore is also great. Prince is ok but not comparable insist on compensation if you have not been offered free hilton nights on another vacation.

here is another property apparently the Hale Koa had the same problem 7 years ago but only shut down a half a floor at a time. Hale Koa is a military property so I guess they did not have to worry about lawsuits.

Here is the link to the hotel. http://www.hawaiiprincehotel.com/ It looks like a business hotel; not a vacation hotel. It says oceanfront accomodations but in the descriptions, it also says "minutes to swimming,etc" and overlooking the marina or yacht club. In other words, this is NOT oceanfront property like the HHV. I agree w/other posters; I would not accept this as substitute hotel. After all, who wants to get on a shuttle to go to the beach in Hawaii? Get them to book you in one of the alternates suggested previously or definitely get some future compensation. It looks ok for a biz trip, but I would not book this place for a vacation hotel. I could be wrong, but check out the site.

You would not be catching a shuttle to the beach at the Hawaii Prince. Did they tell you what kind of room you would be getting? I have seen various rooms there and the suites are fabulous. It is a very nice hotel, but it is not a RESORT like the Hilton.

I would like the Prince because it's closer to Ala Moana Shopping Center. ;-)

But yes, the price to book a room at the Prince is not even close to the price at the Hilton.

Hi David let us know what you have settled on. The Prince is not a dump and that marina in front is actually is the Marina front I use to jog there when I lived at the Ilikai. I thought the Prince Hotel was the hotel in the Brady Bunch Hawaii movie? Think it use to be a sheraton.

It is a hike to the beach but probably more like a 4-5 scenic Block walk. Don't worry it has been updated.

Here is a link to a star bulletin page that lists all of the events happening on Oahu this week. Dave I am so jealous there is not half as much to do on Kauai where I will be next Friday.

Don't miss an obon dance you can usually spot Mayor Jeremy Harris at these events if it is a popular temple. Your conceirge can tell you where to fine one usually on Fri-Sat-Sun. Also Melissa are the dragon boat races on or was that article in the starbulletin a report on them taking place last weekend

I am guessing you will not get in to your hotel in time for Dragon boat races but there route will probably make it's way by the Hawaii Prince.

As someone who has actually stayed at the Hawaii Prince, I can tell you that it is an EXCELLENT hotel. I think it's actually one of the best on Oahu. When I am there, I either stay there or at the Halekulani. I believe that it's a member of the Leading Hotels of the World chain -- a chain that only has top-notch properties.

Yes, it's not on the beach, but there is a free shuttle (that will take you to other areas in Honolulu, as well), and as I recall, it's not too terribly far to walk there. Every room has a great view of Honolulu harbor.

IMO, unless a beachfront property is an absolute must, be very glad that they re-booked you at the Prince -- it's FAR better than the Hilton.

Dave XXXX is misleading you, Prince is not bad but it is not better or equivalent to the Hilton

Certainly not one of the best hotels in Waikiki either but it is ok Dave. Yes insist on compensation like credit nights for another trip if they were one of the best they would not have availability to address the Hiltons crisis.

You could be in just about any city USA.....it's not much better on the northern part of the island either (as others will tell you)

I was at the Hawaii Prince last week visiting friends who booked a room there for $80 a night on Priceline. I did not like the location of the hotel at all, it is on the outer fringes of Waikiki and on the harbor, not the beach and not within walking distance of all the "action."

The bathroom was eye popping, but the room was not that special. There are no balconies which I thought was unusual.

I much prefer central Waikiki....Halekulani, Royal Hawaiian, Moana, or the Sheraton Waikiki are all as upscale as the HHV and more upscale than the Prince, in my opinion.

Returned from Hawaii a few days ago and had a great time. Hilton switched us to a different tower in the hawaiian village and I'm glad they did. We thoroughly enjoyed the HHV and would go there again in a second.

Just returned from HHv and it looks like they have the situation in hand about relocating people. The Mold Tower is still closed. The thing that ticked me off is the $20 Unbrella charge on the beach and the $12 lounge chair charge on the beach.

Pool lounges are no charge but you had better be there at 8:30 AM to get one.
plenty of towels. I believe it is still the best hotel on the beach with the best beach. We were in the Rainbow Tower, right on the beach.

Meals ran from inexpensive to way expensive. plenty of shipping in the complex and a great ABC store on location.
