Hey Kal......
I hope you get time to do a trip report in the next week. I'm leaving for Utah to ski for a week, and I'll need something sunny and warm to read when I get back to thaw me out!!!!! Now, if that darn plane can just keep going past SLC.........

Aloohaaaa one and all! >
< (maybe my fingers are working now?)
I really hate to sound so mysterious and cryptic about this last trip but both Mrs Kal and I returned with very ambivilent feelings about the "success" of this last trip.
I hope this is not misinterpreted but all we know is that while we truly, deeply love and appreciate our great friends immensely,
, the ones who we knew were going to be spending their whole 2 weeks in Hawaii with us on Kauai and even the 6 who "suprised us"
for New Year's Eve week, they have been duly warned that if we see them even CLOSE to Kauai starting Dec 27th. 2004-Jan 17ish 2005 they will be shot on sight.
To sum it up, we ate, drank, golfed, hiked NaPali/Sleeping Giant/Polihale/Lydgate and talked story (a lot) with friends at the Sand Bar into the wee hours....so I guess it was a great trip afterall. :-"
And other than traffic thru Kapaa the week of New Year's, the island is STILL gorgeous and the people are great.
Nothing really new. Some good local gossip, some new local friends.
Didn't "find the time" to do the tube ride, Big Red Plane, ATV, Puka Dogs, and a few other things that escaped us...but...330ish until we try again.
BUT, it just may be time to hit Tahiti/Cooks/ NZ-Oz. :-?
Mahalo to all and if anyone wants to drop me a line to discuss "Kauaian travel ambivilency" as I already have with a few on our FFFs, feel free.
[email protected].
I'm trying to post some great Kauai pics on worldisround.com (along w/ our Nov. Yountville Fodor's GTG pics already posted) shortly but that pesky little thang call A JOB is still trying to get in my way!!! $)

C4H, I thought it was advertised as The Big Red Plane but:
http://www.tropicalbiplanes.com/index.html
My older Sis (who is basically afraid of her own shadow) and her hubby flew it in Oct. and LOVED it.
I sent the business an e-mail asking if they could fit my 6'4"/255lb carcass and Mrs Kal's 5'nuthin' in and they said no problem.
Next year perhaps. We did see it crusing overhead quite a bit.
Open cockpit on Kauai would be awesome.
We were supposed to go tubing w/ our friends, but.....:-"

Kal: I truly believe your trip was not a completely fulfilled experience because you did not indulge in a loco moco brunch on Oahu with the Wicked Wahines of the Democrat Party.
Oh, yes, and the politically ambiguous PakePorkChop. Until you do this, your life will not be complete.

Kal, darlin, I think that while Hawaii is wonderful and one can never really get enough of it...NZ sounds pretty damn wonderful too!
Re: Traveling in the company of friends, I have voiced my opinion on that here before and some have thought that it was an un-friendly stance to take, but when the Yankee and I travel, we cherish those times of "Just the two of us" and never enjoy our times as much when sharing them. So I can only imagine how much "fun" it must have been to be sharing with many friends.
It is so good to see you here, though, among many friends who would most likely love to travel with you too

I did the tubing over Thanksgiving this year and it was wonderful. The only problem is that the trip is too short. They have the same trip on the Big Island but it's done in kyacks instead of the tubes.
If you ever get the chance to do it ....go !

Nan3,
Been to Molokai and Oahu.
Loved Molokai until the Kaluakoi Resort shut down and Midnight Inn restaurant burned down and was never rebuilt.
Haven't been back since about '94.
Beautiful island with cliffs to rival NaPali. Empty beaches. Great views of sunsets over Oahu. I couldn't do the Mule ride because the lady told me the mule would take me down but I'd have to carry the mule back up (I think that was a Big Guy joke
#39;()
Very laid back. A friend of mine does mountain bike tours there from time to time and we may go back one of these trips.
Oh..and Kanemitsu Bakery!
Yummie.
Liked Oahu after days on Kauai then Molokai. It was a good wake up call to get us back up and running for a return to the m'land.
Did Waikiki, Pearl Harbor, D'head and the NoShore and hit some downtown taverns (I know-what a shock
).
Other than that, never had a reason to go back until now, right MelHI, Kalena, PPK and my other FFFs on Oahu?
>-
If we don't work in a few days down to Fr Poly this year, we'll probably do
3-4 days on the BI since one of my friends retired there (yes we hate
him
)and has a place to rent on his property.
Mahalo!

Thanks Kal for your report on the "other" islands. We will be spending 3 nights on Molokai this year. Hope to spend the time doing much of nothing - like the idea of walking on deserted beaches.
Big Island and Oahu are also on our major trip to Hawaii. Can't wait.

Kal - thanks for the little bit of sunshine to thaw me out. We had over 4 feet of snow at Snowbird and Alta last week - could have skiied with the snorkels on!!
We had the same problem in Utah you did in Kauai - I have vowed NEVER to tell ANYONE exactly where or when we are going on vacation - EVER!!
