Excuse me Austin, but I agree with Lenleigh. If I want to help someone with a DC question, I click Washington, DC. If the question is there, great, if not - tough cookies. Obviously Fodors intended for it to work that way since they didn't put separate boards but allow you to pick a state/country.
Just because some of you don't do it that way doesn't mean it's the wrong way to do it. It's actually more efficient because why whould I search all fifty states or the entire continent of Europe if I'm only interested in St. Louis or Istanbul.
Maybe some of you have all day to do just that.

I have actually never used the state to "click" on..if I want info on a state or city, I put the name in the text search.
There are only US and Europe etc forums, there are no Colorado etc forums.
What am I missing here? Or does this mean I have all day to do something ~

I was referring to the people that apparently just peruse the entire Europe/US/Latin America/Asia/whatever forum instead of narrowing it down, since they seem to get upset at those of us that imply otherwise.

Thanks gnrbernstein, it's nice to know I am not the only one that understands this. It's really curious to me that people actually browse through the whole general topics. Sometimes I do this but if it was a busy posting day you could have pages and pages of postings. Why sift through all that when you can go directly to what your interested in?
Austin, perhaps you should try what we are talking about. I am not saying there is a separate forum (used that word once but didn't mean that) for Colorado. When you start a post, don't you select the state if you are posting a question or comment about a location? If you don't select that then you will only see it listed under general topics. If you post something about Colorado and select Colorado as the topic then you are going to get more responses from people that look at the Colorado postings. It does not seach every message for the keyword (unless you have typed that word into the search field).
Funny because I am always seeing similar posts where people need info but the only comment they get is to post it under the state.

For those who don't know what I am talking about try this:
On the left side of the main page you will see Forum - United States and it will list all of the most recent posts starting with #1. You can find "The Sky Is Falling In Denver!#2" under that but you will only see it there (unless you put those keywords in the search field). When I posted #2 I did NOT pick the topic as Colorado so it does not show up when you click on Colorado and search.
On the right side of the main screen you will see and/or Topics. It lists General Interest first and then all states in alpa order. If you click on Colorado and hit search you will find my other post "The Sky Is Falling In Denver" but you will NOT see the other identical post.
I cannot believe that certain people only search one way on here. There are at least 3 ways to get what you are looking for. I was always under the impression that most people selected the state as their topic if posting about a location otherwise any random comments about no particular destination would be posted under general interest or no topic at all.

lenleigh and others - for those who travel extensively and have knowledge of multiple locations, it would probably be MORE time consuming to click each "search topic" than it would be to browse the whole general topics section.
I can scan through about 200 posts in general topics in just a few minutes and see if there are any that I want to open, provided the title is detailed enough. Definitely doesn't take all day!
Neither is right, neither is wrong.

I agree with jlm. I scan the posts looking for those I can help with and also those of interest to me for future travel. If I were planning a specific trip, I would search in that area. But otherwise, my travels both past and future are too wide spread to confine myself to specific areas.

Well who is to say I haven't traveled a lot though either but I get what you mean. I really only use that to search for Colorado (because I am live there) and then I browse through all the recent posts. But, if I wanted to read posts about Hawaii or another state I would search the state to see all that info.

For more colors, here is the code:
<font color=insertcolorcodehere> insert text < /font >(without the spaces)
The easiest way to get this is to use a basic color first, red for instance, per flygirl's instructions above, then hit preview, then edit. When you come back, the code above will be there with color="red". Get rid of "red" and replace with the #color.
Here are two charts with color codes: http://groups.msn.com/CommunityFeedb...Message=125389
Or you can just use the basic colors - red, green, blue, yellow, pink, orange, purple, brown, gray.
Any other basic color names out there??

Boston in May, South Beach this month for my 40th, Philadelphia/Bucks County area for Xmas, and...
People, put your destination somewhere in your title! Even if you are going to New York City-- it's not the ONLY place in the US that people want to visit, and it's NOT the only place in the US with numbered streets, tall buildings or theatres! And if you REALLY want to thrill us, if you want travel times or directions, tell us where you're starting from!
Just little suggestions....
