How many of you all click on a specific state to see all the posts relating to that state? I search first for Colorado and then I browse through the general topics to see if there's anything interesting.
Someone posted a question about Colorado under general topics and it doesn't show up when you search for Colorado. A couple of posters said he posted it in the correct location, blah blah blah. Gee, wonder why he's only gotten a couple of responses with advice.

Lenliegh, for the umpteenth time, there is no "Colorado Board", or Texas board, or NY Board...
When you click on Colorado, the fodors search function collects all the posts that have the word "Colorado" in them(that are here, and only here...) and brings them up on that search page.
If you go try it now - click on Colorado - you will see above the posts it says "Forun - United Sates". Topic - Colorado. There is only one US forum.
Read the first post on this thread. Basically says the same thing.

I just tested your theory, is that how it really works? When I go to the New York board, there is a question posted about the Adirrondachs (sp?) but the word New York does not appear anywhere in the thread. So I guess my question is how would the search function have collected that particular thread and put it in the New York category? Just curious is all.

When you search on Colorado, it doesn't search the posts for the word Colorado. It only shows you the posts where people selected Colorado as their topic.

atilla, the search function has nothing to do with which state a thread shows up in. The search function searches the message text, whereas the "categories" of the states are chosen by the posters when they create a thread.
When you post a new thread, you are offered a box in which to "pick one or more serach topics;" the list is basically a list of the states. So the poster who asked about the Adirondacks had chosen New York as a search topic. If a poster doesn't choose a state from that list, then clicking on the list of states in the "topics" list will not find that message/thread even if it has the state name in it.
