I agree with Dayle. Your itin. is quite odd indeed. I don't understand your choices at all (locations at that time of year and what's with all the Holiday Inn's?). How about the Northeast? New York to Maine?

Forgive me for my ignorance with my OP, as it seems I have confused most posters.

I started off with just a thought, and my OP was just an idea, nothing was set in concrete, which is why I have asked for advice on creating an itinerary.

Not being located in the USA, it’s difficult to appreciate how large a country it really is.

Where have we visited in the US.

Most of CA
Las Vegas several times
Seattle
New York
Washington DC
Chicago
Boston
Hawaii
Grand Canyon
Phoenix

The reason we are choosing the Holiday Inn group, we are platinum members with HI.

Some of the suggested comments sound interesting Montana, Wyoming, even Minnesota, Wisconsin and Michigan, as does Milwaukee and Minneapolis, down to KC and on to Dallas, then either up to The Ozarks, over to St. Louis and back up to Chicago, or head East to Little Rock, Memphis and Nashville and Back up.

We are 2 adults mid 40’s, driving is no problem to us, we like to visit museums, art galleries, historic places of interest, walking even if city based, occasional shopping trip.

I trust this will give some idea, for an itinerary.

Just to add to the above post, this will be a 3-week holiday, we would like 3 or 4 locations, maybe 5 or 6 days in each location.

Arriving form the UK, into one state, and departing back to the UK from another state should not be a problem.

If you went with 3-4 days a stop, you'd be rollin'.

If you're coming to Milwaukee, I have tons of suggestions.(I'm a lifer)

We also just spent the weekend in Chicago and had a great time.

We travel to Madison, WI and Minneapolis quite frequently. Both are great cities.

OK, here's something to think about. Since you have done some traveling in the US and have seen mostly major cities - how about something totally different.

I would still HIGHLY recommend visiting some of the National Parks in the Rockies. If it's going to be August maybe:

Fly into Montana and start with Glacier National Park

Drive on down to Yellowstone and the Tetons

From there head to either Rocky Mtn Natl Park and

Fly back from Denver

or for the last leg of the trip, see the Utah Natl Parks and fly back from Las Vegas.

There are some wonderful wildlife and native american museums and art galleries along the way for the cultural side of things.

Our National Parks are each very unique and very special. Some of the very best things about the US!

You have seem more of the U.S.A. than most Americans.

You don't mention Oregon, of which I never tire. Highlights include the coast, the Columbia River Gorge, and Crater Lake. From there you could go to Yellowstone NP and then down into Colorado--which is another wonderful place.

Alternatively, from Oregon you could go to Glacier NP and then on to the Canadian Rockies--Banff, Jasper, and surroundings.

If you have had enough of the west, I would urge you to investigate Georgia, Tennessee, and the Carolinas. Highlights of this region include Savannah, Charleston, Memphis, Nashville, Asheville, the Great Smokey Mountains NP, the Blue Ridge Parkway, the Sea Islands, Hilton Head, the Okefenokee Swamp, and the Atlantic Coast.

Perhaps Frommer's "The Carolinas and Georgia" and "Nashville & Memphis" are available in your local library.

Florida is also nearby.

What about including the Lake Tahoe area or Yellowstone - it may be a park, but it's spectacular!

Spending that much time in the cities you mentioned would be a mistake there is not enough to do and it would be just too hot at that time of the year. Our country has so many beautiful places to see.You have recieved a lot of good information from previous posters please consider some of those locations. Yellowstone and Glacier National Park are wonderful. Another great trip would be Oregon coast a wonderful place. Let us know if you need more help planning.
