Samsaf, that Hilton has been completely re-done since it was damaged in the 2004 hurricanes - it's very nice now.

If you get tired of the beach, drive west on the 192 causeway to historic downtown Melbourne (the city hall will be on your right, the historic area is one block south). Lots of interesting shops and good places to eat there.

Samsaf, I read in the local paper last night that the Hilton is constructing an addition to one side of the building. Just thought I'd let you know.

I called the Hilton on Melbourne Beach, and they are constructing another building.

We have booked the Doubletree Suites in Melbourne. We got a fantastic government rate because daughter is a teacher. So unless we find something better, we'll stick with the Doubletree for this trip.

Thank you for all your help.

I'm not following the government rate "because she's a teacher". Do they honor a government rate for teachers on leisure travel? If so, don't they ask for documentation that she is on government business/ workshop/ conference/ etc?

She just has to have her ID with her that she is a government worker. She doesn't have to be there on business.

We are headed to the club at hammock beach (hammockbeach.com) It's just south of St. Augustine and you have several room options for around $200 a night. They even have a 3BR condo available for that rate. They have a lazy river water park, several pools, several restaurants and are on the beach. It has amazing reviews (people are comparing it to a Ritz) and you can't beat the price. Check it out! Good luck!
