Help with Driving Directions in NYCity

I have to go to an address in NYC that I am not used to driving to - I know how to get from Boston to the city, but I am usually getting off at East 96th Street -
this time I am going to East 26th Street, -

I will be going south on the FDR -
does anyone know the exit number/ street exit I would take that would make it easiest for me to get to East 26th street?

Looking at the map, I think it is Exit 7/ East 23rd Street -
and then I woujld take a right on E 25th, a right on 3rd Ave and another right onto East 26th....

does this sound right?

Thanks if anyone knows ! I just don't want to go past it and I don't want to get off too early -

Using MSN Maps, partial directions below:

20: Turn RIGHT onto Ramp towards Randalls-Wards Is / Manhattan / FDR Drive 0.2

21: Road name changes to Triborough Bridge 0.4

22: Take Ramp (LEFT) onto FDR Dr S [Franklin D Roosevelt Dr] towards FDR Dr 5.4

23: At exit 7, keep RIGHT onto Ramp towards E 23 St 0.1

24: Turn RIGHT (West) onto E 25th St 0.6

25: Turn RIGHT (North) onto Park Ave S < 0.1

End: Arrive 100 E 26th St, New York, NY 10010-1808

We'd need to know b/w what avenues on 26th st. you need for exact directions. If you're going to 26th b/w 3rd and second, what you describe sounds correct. Either the exit you mention (23 st.) or I might take the 34 st. exit and then depending on the particular block you need, head south. on Lexington or 2nd ave. 26th st. probably goes east (most even blocks go east and most odd blocks go west).

It's a tricky area b/c 27th st doesn't go all the way thru b/c of Kips Bay complex. Here's a map of the area.

mclaurie information is right on target. What is the exact address on East 26th Street?

You're between 2nd and 3rd Ave, so come across on E. 25th, take a right (north) onto 3rd Ave., and turn right (east) onto 26th St.

And I would still get off at the 23rd St. exit - that address is quite close.

Thanks Lizzie ! You would think I could have figured this out, but I always feel better checking with you NYC experts on Fodors - I am just one of those drivers that likes to know exactly where I am supposed to be going and after all these years, if I'm not going to exactly the area I'm used to driving in - and honestly the last five or six trips I've ended up on Amtrak instead!) so I needed some help and a refresher -

you guys are great - thanks a million.

Go to the Google map, type the address and it will show you the location and ask you if you need directions.

Thanks - I did get directions from fdr on line, but I still always like to double check here, this is where I get the info (admitting to not being the best 'map reader') the info like McLaurie gave about 27th St not going all the way down - so at least if I do mess up, I know other things to avoid - I just feel more comfortable when I have that info from someone more familiar than I am -

but I have it all down now and am set - thanks to all of you !
