Look into hotels further from Stockbridge. Most of the motels along Rte 7 from Lenox to the Pittsfield line piggyback on the Tanglewood scene, but you probably could get rooms for single nights at the Crown Plaza Hotel at the corner of South [rte 7] and West Sts. in Pittsfield. The atmosphere won't be what you have in Stockbridge or Lenox, but you'll be able to get back and forth to Tanglewood easily.
If you want to picnic at Tanglewood, stop for the best fixings at Guido's Market on the north side of route 7 just on the Lenox side of Pittsfield/Lenox line. What a grocery!! I despise grocery shopping ordinarily, but this market is a gourmet treat.
Hope you can work out the arrangements and your weeknd comes together.

If you don't mind waiting, I am sure you will be able to get a reservation at the last minute. I did this last year for Labor Day by calling on Friday (of that weekend). Every inn has cancellations, etc. If you are concerned, book a big hotel with a liberal cancellation policy (like the Crown plaza the previous poster recommended) as a "back up" and then call closer to the date. A hotel woudl rather have you for one or two nights than have the room empty for 3. I enjoy staying in Lenox which has tons of B&Bs and think it is a lot nicer than Stockbridge which gets the huge tourist buses.

Even motels get booked up there. I worked at a summer camp in Hinsdale, Mass., and my parents and I checked 20 motels within a 30 mile radius the night we arrived, and the only one we found with a vacancy was the scariest place I have ever seen in my life. So whatever you do, make a reservation, and not at the Blue Stone Motel.

Unfortunately even the big chain hotels often have the same 3 night minimum (I know, I've tried over the years) My best suggestion would be to try crossing the border and try areas in NY state. Depending on how far you're willing to drive (and that might depend on how far you're driving to get there--if you're making a huge trip by plane or car to get to the Berkshires, you might not be put off by an hour's drive from the hotel/B&B to Tanglewood, for example).
Close places to stay in NYS include Chatham, Canaan (just over the border, quite close to Tanglewood) or try further out near Hudson NY
