Help w/Portsmouth NH lodging

Husband and I would like recommendations for accommodations in or near Portsmouth, especially if you know one near the water.

We have stayed at the Hilton Garden Inn downtown and was very nice, not that old.

The only place we've stayed is at the Hilton Garden Inn. It's not right near the water but it's a small town and that hotel was conveniently located to walk the town. Typical HGI.
