HELP w/ Dec/Jan Family Vacation-Need Luxury w/o the Cheesy factor!

I am trying to book a 1 week trip. Our budget is approx. $600/night & we need a 1 BR suite....

a) What 'luxury' resorts would you rec? The only one Ive found close to my budget is La Playa in Naples

b) Are there vacation rentals/condos/homes that would have access to a nearby resort for the amenities?

c) In Dec/Jan my only requirement is that it is warm weather (coming from Ohio & it will be cold)

d) In closing-We have to stay in the US for a few diff. reasons otherwise would absolutely just hop to mexico/caribbean..& I dont mean this to be offensive to the FL lovers but we really like low-key down to earth beautiful places....Would we be better suited for Captiva/Sanibel?

any ideas?

Have you considered some of the resorts near Phoenix? Ponte HiltonTapatio Cliffs Resort ot JW Marriott Desert Ridge Resort or Royal Palms Resort & Spa.

I could never afford what I'm about to recommend but would certainly love to be able to afford a week here: http://www.postranchinn.com/

It is very expensive but it looks like the Butterfly room would fall into your budget.

I just checked the rates on the Post Ranch Inn. Check out their package deals, you would have more accomodations to choose from. Check out that Tree House!

I'd check out some of the Keys resorts. I'd think you could make the price work. http://www.konakairesort.com/ http://www.coconutbeachresort.com/ http://www.cheeca.com/ http://www.hawkscay.com/

Although it is less than your budget, we were going to stay at the Edgewater Naples which is all suites, right on the beach, and gives access to its larger resort up the road (its name is escaping me) and seems to be in a good location. I was sorry to cancel as Airtran stopped their non-stop flights for us to RSW!

You didn't say which part of FL you're coming to. If you do spend a day or two in Orlando for any reason stay at the Ritz. It's actually really reasonable for a luxury hotel and has a gorgeous lobby, grounds and pool. The spa was voted the best in the US and it would make for a great day if you're passing through.
