help w/ day 5 in S. Utah
Day 1 Las Vegas
Day 2-3 Sightsee at Zion
Day 4 - sightsee at Bryce and Kodachrome;stay in Tropic
Day 5- ?
Day 6 and 7 Las Vegas
Day 5 is where I am confused. Do we go to Capitol Reef and then go back towards Vegas and maybe stay in St. George so we can get to LV early? Or do we continue on to Torrey since I want to see scenic route 12 and then go back towards Cedar Breaks? We'll be there the first week in May.
Also, has anyone stayed at the Stone Canyon B&B in Tropic?

Don't overlook the NV State Park Valley of Fire. It's about 50-60 mi. NE of Las Vegas. We found it accidently when we were in the area in Dec. Some pix at http://community.webshots.com/user/bookhall .

Bobbie,
It will lengthen your drive back to Vegas to go to Capital Reef - but I think you'd enjoy it. It is a hidden gem and offers a lot of good hikes without the crowds. There are a couple of quaint towns along the way (Torrey, Bicknell, Loa, etc.) You could also stop at Cedar Breaks just outside of Cedar City. It offers a good panorama, much like Bryce. Kolob Canyon is also right outside of Cedar City. It is a part of Zions NP and worth the stop. Have fun.

What you might do is spend two nights in Tropic. This way you will save time checking in and out of a motel room, packing and unpacking, etc.
On day 5 drive scenic Hwy 12 drive to Torrey and go visit Capitol Reef for a short time. It's only 115 miles from Tropic to Capitol Reef. Then head back to Tropic. You will enjoy Hwy 12 seeing it going in both directions. You can still go see Cedar Breaks and won't be that far from Las Vegas the on Day 6.
For what it's worth, If I had to choose between Cedar Breaks and Valley of Fire, I would pick Valley of Fire.
