The best thing you can do for yourself if to read all thru the priceline website.
Then go to biddingfortravel.com
It is a great website!!

Yes, rnbtr, that is how it works. Please read through the Priceline information before actually giving them your credit card! It is non-refundable. You can't change your mind if you don't like the hotel.

Biddingfortravel gives you some information about which hotels people have been getting in which zones, so you can get a rough idea of which hotels you will *probably* get. But you shouldn't click "buy my hotel room" until you're ready to accept *any* hotel they give you in that area and quality range.

Definitely read through the Priceline site and Bidding For Travel to understand how it works. You are correct that once you bid on a star rating and an area, if your bid is accepted, you will be charged for the reservation and you will then find out what hotel you get.

Too bad, from the thread title I thought there was a new dating service where you submitted your requirements and were required to accept a blind dinner date.

Hotwire has an unknown also. You choose your 3,4 or 5* hotel which does list the price per night, but you do not learn the name of the hotel until AFTER you have committed to the deal with your credit card.

FYI-I regularly book both hotel and car reservations with Hotwire, and have always been more than satisfied with my results. The hotels have been just wonderful-nicer than we expected!
