Thanks to all of you!!! Since I was the one who wanted to book, you gave me the outside voices I needed in order to persuade...

Turned out the $145 fare was only if we were willing to fly back at 6AM which we're not, but today we're still looking at $232 for either Tampa or Miami, which is fine. I'll now try to book us a place to stay, tonight, tho' I've already conceded it might be too late to find something on water in our price range (had hoped for $250 or less).

Tho' we'd been wanting the islands, we're now also thinking about whether we're willing to do Miami. The next few hours of research will decide a lot...

Miami will be warmer than Tampa, for sure. For the dates you will be coming down, this can be rather chilly in Central Florida. Still will be pretty pricey for hotels.
