Do we absolutely need reservations in February?
We have the beginning and end of our trip to Belize for next February figured out--Duplooys first and Ambergris at the end. But would like to be 'foot loose and fancy free' for the middle week. We will have a 4 wheel drive and will plan on heading down to Hopkins and Placencia. It will be February. Does anyone have a feel of whether all the good hotels will be booked solid or whether we can just stop in and get a night or two? Am thinking of hotels like Hopkins Inn, Almond Beach, Maya Beach, Inn at Roberts Grove, etc. Thanks for any input.

I think if you don't book ahead you just need to be really flexible about the type of place you'll end up. We visit in the summer - low season - and places like the Hopkins Inn do fill even then. If you don't have your heart set on just one place and you don't mind going around a bit once you hit town, you should be fine. I like the idea of 'foot loose and fancy free' but in the end fall in love with specific places and book ahead every time. Keep us posted!

We were on Ambergris this past winter and decided to go to Placencia for a few days. I think this was early March. I emailed a few properties checking availability, and almost every place I wrote did have rooms. We didn't book until we got there. However, we were looking at much more moderate properties. Ended up at Westwinds for US$50.00 a night.....

As long as you are not picky you will find some really good deals but the really top places do book up in high season.
www.robertsgrove.com being a good example
Best to go online early with a discounter and book those up...

Thank you all for your opinions. qwo--good point as we really want to stay at robertsgrove a couple of days. I could handle having a couple of nights booked and the rest open. We have a friend's condo in Placencia as a backup anyway.
