I actually have a Hawaiian pet name book if you want me to look up something in particular. Do you have a description of her personality?

Odd that no one before me has commented but, a perfect choice for a dog is "Haole" [pronounced howl-ee]
It's Hawaiian for foreigner [a common way of referring to any non-native Hawaiian, especially people of Caucasian ancestry],

Our dog's name is Kiki (tiny, sweet chihuahua), and we love to call her Waikiki-kiki.

I also thought about Haole-howlee,,but thoutght it maybe racist. How about "yoshi" - japanese for adopted son. --even if it's girl, an honest name/

What about "Lani?" as in "Leilani?" I've always loved this name.

Too bad it isn't a male. If we ever have a son, I'd love to name him "Kimo."

We have a 22-month old daughter named Malia (she's half filipino, half caucasian..Finnish/Polish grandparents), so she "looks" like a Malia.
She's gonna be knockout!

Someone may have said this already. Have not read the replies but I vote pualani (heavenly flower). The name is too long for a dog actually cause more than 1 or 2 syllables can confuse a dog so her nickname would be pua (flower)

Islandmom, we are seeing her at the kennel for the first time on Saturday. (my kids are so excited!) When we do, I would love to know some names from your book! Thanks to everyone for your amazing suggestions. So far, I really like Kalani or Maile, my husband thinks Hula and the kids both love Lilo! We will see!!!Thanks again and keep em coming, I knew you guys would come through!

What about a name pertinent to HI, such as Lava. Easily said, Pup can hear it, meets all ASPCA criteria. Not patented as far as I know. Whatever name you select, enjoy your new family member.

When I lived in Hawaii, we named our dog Hoku which means star. It's a great name for a pet - it can easily be said to convey any emotion or attitude!

What about some input from posters who've actually lived in HI? For instance, what names did your neighbors use for their pets?

maybe merry christmas is a tad too long for a child's pet name. Maybe spot or fido perhaps might be all right.
