will be in Philadelphia New Years Eve---want to stay in either Ritz Carlton or Rittenhouse Hotel--which is more charming and can we walk to Mummers Day Parade?

The Rittenhouse is probably more charming. Great views overlooking Rittenhouse Square. Can't go wrong with either one. If you want something charming & about $100-200 less I can recommend the Latham. All three are within walking distance to the Mummers parade-just depends where on the route you want to go. Judging is @ Broad & Market. Enjoy your stay!

The Rittenhouse or the Bellevue. The Ritz Carlton is now the St.Regis, but The Ritenhouse is by far the best hotel situated on Rittenhouse Square, they have the best concierge. There are a few new and very hip restaurants which are on the park. Rouge, Devon grill and the Square bar. Check out www.philymag.com, they will list everything for you, or email me for more info. There is a great Four Season on the Parkway.

Stayed at the (Ritz) St. Regis before the switch but wasn't overly impressed compared to other Ritz's (yes, many are of the same 'formula', but the cookie cutter ones lack any charm/character). Haven't stayed at the Rittenhouse. The Four Seasons has alaways been my priority choice.

As lifelong resident of Philadelphia, I second the Four Seasons followed by the Rittenhouse. I believe both hotels are offering New Years Eve packages. If you are looking to book just 'room', I recommend phoning to make certain of availability. The Mummers Day Parade will be on Market St. this year [not Broad St. as in past years].
Hope this helps.

Hi Barbara,
In the December 1999 issue of Philadelphia Magazine virtually all center city hotels were reviewed. The Rittenhouse, Four Seasons, and St. Regis were at the top. Keep in mind that they are also the most expensive. The Latham (mentioned earlier) was considered best boutique hotel and only $139.00/night. Enjoy your stay.

Has anyone noticed that the original post was from October 1998? I'm sure Barbara already made her selection.
