Help narrowing down Portland, Or. restaurants ????

Ok, after reading the message boards and your much appreciated info. on where to dine in Portland, I'm convinced that we need 4 weeks instead of 4 days there !!! There is just too many choices.
I think we have narrowed it down to Mexican 1 night, (Nuestra Cocina) and Italian 2 nights, (probably Fratelli's for one night and Piazza Italia for the other night). I like beachbum's description of the being greeted in Italian by the owner, I may even be able to talk to him in his native tongue, for what its worth.
Do I need reservations at all of the above restaurants?? Is there any special seating or tables I should ask for?? (table by the window, or table with a view, or table overlooking the dumpster) ha ha .
Somehow, we have to fit in Portland City Grill, (maybe a drink or two at happy hour) I have to see this view that everyone is talking about.
Still thinking about Cafe Mingo, Paley's Place, and Alba Osteria & Enoteca (the name is definately intriguing).
All suggestions welcome, Larry in Connecicut.

I like your list.
We will be there next Thurs, and I plan on drinks at the Portland City Grill right away, it is close to the hotel.
Are you going on the 20th? I will be back the 18th so I can send you any discoveries and mess up all your best laid plans

Give it up Larry.... I've lived here over 30 years and am still overwhelmed by too many choices. But I think you've chosen well: Fratelli's on the upscale side, and Piazza Italia for a more neighborhood, mama's home cooking feel. I'd suggest reservations for both (or any of these you might choose), and not be concerned about a particular table. If you're having second thoughts, Paley's would be best for giving you a feel for what PNW Portland style food is all about. As for Alba..... well, it's my favorite. But, you've already got Fratelli's. Then again, Alba is Piedmont Italian, and Fratelli's is more southern Italy... so they both might work. And Mingo... just solidly good food. Am I helping here? Sorry I can't create the same confusion with Nuestra Cocina.

The one thing I guess I'm confident of saying, don't feel too bad if you miss Portland City Grill. Yes, the views are great. But if you make it to Washington Park or Pittock Mansion, the views are just as good or better. And you won't feel ripped off for the price of the drink.

Thanks again for your help. If time does not permit me to make it to Portland Grill, Washington Park or the Mansion is a good thought.
I can't wait to get out there.
Ciao, Larry.

Hi Larry! Keep Paley's on your list, it's very good. We recently had a great meal at Gotham Building Tavern. Food was wonderful, menu innovative and service very good.

We have also enjoyed great meals at Park Kitchen, Wildwood, Bluehour, clarklewis, and Pho Van Bistro in the Pearl. Lots of great choices. Hurley's is an excellent choice for fine dining in Portland. We'll be back the end of the month to try more great places. Enjoy Portland and please report back on your experiences. Cheers! ***kim***

For outdoor breakfast or lunch try The Tin Shed. Their outdoor seating is in a community garden area-NE 14th and Alberta.
