Help me plan my Maui Itinerary

We are leaving for Maui on May 30 for a 8 night honeymoon. We are staying at the Hyatt Regency. Id love for some ideas on places to eat, sites to see and things that we shouldnt forget to do.
All we have planned so far is driving the Road to Hana, eatting at Mamma's Fish Market, and seeing a Luau but unfortuantly the Old Lahaina Luau is already booked for the entire 8 days. We are on the wait list but any other Luaus u reccomend would be appreciated. Thanks

I'm going to The Feast at Lele, another one of the good luaus in Lahaina. There's the bike ride down from the summit of Haleakala, there's scuba diving, the Tedeschi winery, and on and on. Got a copy of Maui Revealed?

No I dont... maybe we should pick one up for the plane ride. Hows the Feast of Lele compared to the Old Lahaina Luau. Are the prices comparable? Do u have a # or info so I can make a reservation ASAP. Thanks

You should really drive the road from Kahului to Kapalua. The road goes along the ocean and the views are truly amazing. The road can be driven and is in great shape. People will try to talk you out of it but you should take it!

Haleakala is wonderful. Going up there for the sunrise or the sunset must be beautiful. We went up in the middle of the day and it was amazing.

The Road to Hana is the adventure, not necessarily the town. We enjoyed it. Be sure to pull off often, especially when you see other cars. That means there's a great view or a waterfall. Pack a picnic lunch. If you like a bit of history, Charles Lindberg is buried in a cemetery just beyond Hana. The directions to his grave is in Maui Revealed.

Many of the hotels have luaus. We noticed one (maybe two) in Kaanapali while walking the ocean front boardwalk. It was suggested to us that we check out the newspaper and try to go to a Church luau. They are the best supposedly. We were given Old Lahaina luau tickets for our anniversary though. We enjoyed it very much, sorry they're sold out for your trip.

Happy Marriage!

We are going to Maui on the 30th as well! Don't worry about the Luau we just showed up last time and there were plenty of cancellations and we got in, I don't know if that was luck but that is our plan this time. Warren and Annabell's in Lahaina is alot of fun! There is so much to see that my best advice is to remember to take time to relax, you will not see it all in 8 days so don't try. Definatly get Maui revealed so you can pick what seems to you a "must do" The road to Hana is a long day so just be ready for it, this time we are staying in Hana for a few days so we can explore that area. You will have a great time no matter what, Maui is awesome and for your honeymoon the best choice!

It depends on what kind of people you are. My husband is from Hawaii, we got engaged in Maui. We didn't do much and it was great! Walked on the beach at dawn and sunset, slipped out in the wee hours to be alone on the beach if ya know what I mean, went to Lahaina- lots of shops, touristy stuff. That was enough for us. We did get very tan. We did go to Molokini to snorkle and saw lots of 7 foot reef sharks (very placid)- have to take a chartered boat but there are always alot available. It's so beautiful, you can't miss.

We just returned from Maui last week.
We stayed at the exquisite Kapalua Bay Rennaisance and tried to make reservations through the concierge for a luau. Like you, Old Lahaina Luau and even the Feast at Lele were booked, but the concierge highly recommened the luau at the Royal Lahaina. He said he'd guarantee we would not be dissappointed. It was a wonderful show and luau and I would go again in a minute. One word of advice that he gave us and I'll pass it on. No matter what your ticket says, be there NO LATER than an hour before the gates open. The lines are hurrendous and by time the gates did open, you could not see the end of the line was nowhere in site. Maui is a beautiful island, try to go snorkling if you can, and just enjoy this paradise. Congrats.

Melissa;
We purposely chose the Feast of Lele as opposed to the Old Lahaina Luau. The feast has single tables on the beach w/tablecloths and your own server. The Luau has masse style seating where you are sitting with many other people. We wanted it to be romantic as it is our anniversary. I have read many posts and if its romance you want, the Feast is definitely a good choice. Also the food is more highly recommended at the Feast. It is slightly more expensive, but we thought it would be worth it. We definitely won't be able to go to Maui alone the two of us very often. The Feast #1-866-244-5353. Good luck! Have fun!!!

For a great boat trip/snorkel excursion, try the Pacific Whale Foundation's snorkel trip to Lanai. It was a great way to see Maui and Lanai from the water and we were surrounded by spinner dolphins on the way home. Well worth the price. We had been advised to do this rather than Molokini, which is very crowded and I am so glad we took that advice. Plantation House Restaurant in Kapalua has a great view and good food. We also enjoyed Pacific'O, right on the beach in Lahaina.

Please be sure to post some reviews when you return! We'll be there in September for our honeymoon.

We have the bike trip at Haleakala planned (I think with Maui Downhill) and just reserved the Feast at Lele. We also plan to do the Road to Hana. I'm not sure what else is worth planning in advance...

We just returned from our honeymoon on maui and the best advice I can give you is to enjoy paradise and not get caught up in trying to do everything in the guidebooks. You don't want to spend the time at the beach or driving the road to Hana with your nose in Maui Revealed - you will miss all the good stuff like the random fruit stands, local color, and amazing views. We made reservations for a luau and a helicopter ride in advance and everything else I say just wing it!

We were in Maui for 4 days of our honeymoon during the same period 2 years ago. I highly recommend the Road to Hanna. Allow a full day for this so that you can pull over and explore. There are many hidden places to discover...you just need to be adventurous. Also, you CAN drive all the way around (we did) even though the car rental companies tell you you shouldn't. The roads do get a little rough so a 4x4 is recommended (we had a jeep)...the views are spectacular! Go swimming in the Seven Pools but have water shoes cuz there are lots of rocks

Hi Melissa,

We went to Maui for my brother's wedding back in February for 8 days, and I put together a detailed trip report of everything we saw and did (with pictures) on my website. The link is http://traveldiva.marsik.org/mauiday1.htm

Hope it helps and have a great honeymoon!

You'll love the Feast of Lele! My husband doesn't like luaus, but he was impressed with this one! We both thought it was wonderful and romantic and a culinary adventure. Gourmet food served to you right at your table. Great service, if you want to tip you wait until the very end.

Arrive in Lahaina early for the Feast of Lele and look for parking. A small underground parking near Feast of Lele but they charge for it. We found some free street parking. Lahaina town has some delightfully tacky shopping, something you just gotta do, and it's open fairly late even on Sundays.

Enjoy!

Do the Pony Express Tours Ka Moa O Pele Junction Ride http://www.ponyexpresstours.com

This was surprisingly my favorite of all the activities we did on our honeymoon last May. Just fantastic! This is their most popular ride. The ride descends down the sloping Sliding Sands Trail 2,500’ to Haleakala's Crater Floor where lunch is served. Round trip totals 7.6 miles of incredible scenery-around 4 hours in the saddle! I have never been on a horse before and I was a bit scared. However, you quickly realize these are no ordinary horses - they are so damn smart. If you blindfolded them I am sure they could still do the trail with no problem. The scenery is breathtaking.

As for dining we enjoyed Gerard's a lot and had many Cheeseburger's in Paradise meals.

Click on my screen name and check out our Maui trip review... We snorkeled off of the beach at Honolua Bay. The fish there are 10 times better than Molokini, I couldn't believe it! and it was free!

The Maui downhill bike ride is very cool. they pick you up around 3:00am and take you to the top of Haleakala. you watch the sun rise and then ride bikes all the way down the hill ending at the beach.

We went to Maui for 2 wks in March and loved it - highlights included the beaches South of Wailea (so many of them, all gorgeous), Warren & Annabells (dinner and pre-show corny but Warrn entertainment delightful, you can go to just the evening, skip the dinner), trip to Hana (we stopped at a place that we had to hike through a bamboo like area and ended up swimming in a fabulous waterfall), dinner at Mama's (expensive but worth it) and just relaxing, snorkeling and enjoying the sunsets! Drive to Hana - I don't know if I'd do it if you only had the day - we spent two nights there and loved it. Ended up getting into a concert with Kenny G on the beach, served rice and chili for $3 - loved the whole night, and it was so cheap(unusual for Hawaii) - can't wait to go back!
