Help: Lost Item from Checked Bag

Hello and thanks in advance for your advice.

Yesterday I flew Delta direct from Atlanta to LaGuardia. On the top of a checked zippered bag I placed a notebook containing months of business information. The notebook has zero value to anyone but me.

This morning I realized the notebook is missing. I'm assuming the bag was searched and the distinctive notebook fell out or was not replaced.

I've called Delta national (India) and the Delta lost & found in Atlanta (voicemail).

Any suggestions?

Gekko, get the number from information for Atlanta Hartsfield Airport. Call the airport operations office and ask them to transfer your call to airport security. Explain to them your situation.

I think at this point it is out of Delta's hands because it is a security issue and Delta may blow off your call.

Hartsfield's customer service told me it was a "carrier issue" but I'll try security and see if that gets me anywhere. Thanks.

Other ideas?

Anyone had any luck finding a lost item? I'm obviously not optimistic, but it's worth a little effort given the contents of the notebook.

Your sad experience is another chapter in the cautionary tale of never checking something of value, worse yet irreplaceable--no matter that it was only of value to you. You should post on any and all travel sites so that others can profit from your loss. As far as getting it back goes, I hope that you do.

Gekko, it's a long shot, but maybe this site will help you:

http://www.lostandfound.com/

It's a world-wide internet lost and found site I booked marked ages ago.

Good luck!
