Help! Irene is ruining plans to go to Outer Banks this weekend!
Have a rental home lined up in Corolla but Irene has thrown a monkey wrench in our plans. In case we can't get there at all, any suggestions for a western NC, eastern TN (NOT Pigeon Forge) or northern GA trip instead? Would love to rent a place on a lake - need things for the teenagers to do. Thanks!

Ackislander has a great idea. Lake Burton is gorgeous as is the nearby Lake Rabun. Crystal clear water, surrounded by mountains, great for swimming, skiing, wakeboarding, etc.
Check out vrbo.com for rentals or http://rabunrentals.com/flyinghorselodge.htm
Plenty of hiking nearby. GREAT whitewater rafting. Good restaurants in town (Clayton) or nearby including the famous Dillard House.

Asheville, NC (or Black Mountain, Waynesville - all in same general vicinity); we also love, love, love the Boone/Blowing Rock area of NC & enjoyed our one visit to Highlands, NC.
Townsend, TN which is about half an hour from Gatlinburg/Pigeon Forge.
