Help! D.C. on 8/23-828 with kids!
We are coming to D.C. with our 8 and 6 year olds on 8/23 to stay thru 8/28. We want a hotel with the following amenities: pool, suites, close to tourist attractions. I have found the Doubletree Guest Suites in Foggy Bottom. Is this a good hotel? Is Foggy Bottom close enough to attractions? Help!

I can't answer for the quality of the hotel, but Foggy Bottom strikes me as an excellent location if you want to be close to the usual tourist sites. Its bordered on the south side by the Mall, with the Vietnam and Lincoln memorials being a short walk.
This assumes that the Doubletree is truly in Foggy Bottom and not too far from State.

Have you checked into Loews LeEnfant Plaza? We stayed there last summer with our (then) 10 and 7 year olds and they're STILL talking about the hotel. One of the guide books (forget which one) lists it as having the best pool in the DC area--it's great. The chain also has a Loews Loves Kids program and gives each child a large bag of goodies upon arrival. The rooms are large and there's even a tv in the bathroom. Best of all, there's a metro stop right there at the hotel. You're very close to the Air and Space Museum and not far from the mall--we easily walked there and my 7 year old had no problems at all.
Price is comparable to the other 4-star hotels in the area and they usually run summer specials.
The only downside is lack of surrounding restaurants but that wasn't a problem at all, considering the metro location.
I could go on and on--we loved DC and our family would go back in a minute. Email me for more info. on DC with kids.
Have a great trip!

I live in Maryland which is 20min from DC, and I know that it doesnt matter which part of DC you stay in, because the subways are on every corner. You'll definately be able to access the attaractions. I do recommend stayin in hotels that are in NW, or SW washington. SW is where teh Capital and the Smithsonian is. Foggy Bottom is a decent location...sorry i dont know what the hotel looks like.
Happy hotel hunting.

Cheryl,
We stayed at the Doubletree in Foggy Bottom last year over Memorial Day and through the following week. Our children are older than yours (ages 10, 12, 14 and 16) but we found it to be a great location for the sights but probably a longer walk down to the monuments than yor children are up to routinely but the subway is close and taxis abound. There is very little right in close to monuments, etc. The hotel was very nice and had a rooftop pool. Our children still speak of our week in D.C. as the best family trip ever! We all loved the monuments, the smithsonian museums, arlington, the georgetown are, the National Cathedral. etc...good luck. Write me directly if I can be of more help.
