Help a family of five
Our trip date nears. We're staying at the Embassy Suites in the financial district because the rate was the best I could find. So we'll walk, take cabs, experience New York City at its best. What's the best way to get to N. End Ave, where should I park, and what should we see first. I've asked these questions before, but that was four months ago. I want updates!

Unless you are driving here you don't need a car. I'm sure the hotel has a garage or an arrangement with a garage nearby if you need to park. Just check with them. Where are you driving in from? The routes vary depending on time of day, traffic and potential street fairs (summer months) or parades.

If you indicate where you are coming from directions to the hotel can be provided.
On street parking (alternate side) is available in Battery Park City but finding a space is near impossible. A garage would appear to be your only option. Don't know the cost for 24 hour parking but it is probably going to be more than $25 a day. You are going to be within walking distance of the World Trade Center and the World Financial Center. Also within walking distance is Battery Park where you get the ferry to the Statue of Liberty. You could also walk to and take the Staten Island ferry (free) for a view of the skyline and the Statue of LIberty.

If possible, forget the car. It'll just become a problem while you try to enjoy your stay. Unless you're driving in. So, then park the car, and leave it until your departure.
Try to get to Central Park (especially if you have youger members of the family in tow), maybe take in a meal in China Town, walk around SoHo. There's plenty to do. Especially now, when the weather's warm, but not too hot. There are always street festivals this time of year.
Try to pick up a Time Out NY (magazine you can get at any newstand), to read up on the week's festivals and activites around the city and the Boroughs. Or go to www.ny.citysearch.com. Not the best resource, but they do hilight the weeks top events, and have a section for those that are just visiting. Check it out, and have fun!
