HELP - Maui hotel for just one night

we are going to maui and big island for our honeymoon in august. we will fly into maui arriving in the late evening, stay one night, then fly to big island for 5 nights. after that, we will fly back to maui for another 4 nights.

question: for the first night, is there any place reasonably priced and close to the airport to stay?

thanks!

you might try Mama's Fish House - yes the famous restaraunt. I've heard they have affordable efficiencies at a reasonable price and it is a lovely setting to get in the island vibe. GL

Just curious, why are you flying into Maui at all? For our honeymoon, we flew into the BI, then out of Maui, and it was not any more expensive to do it that way. Then we just bought a cheap inter-island flight (seperately, on Hawaiian airlines through expedia or travelocity) from the BI to Maui in between for like, under $120 for both of us. It was much easier than what you are describing! More time to enjoy, not a night wasted. You'll have to be at the airport by 7:30 and it will not be the best way to start a relaxing honeymoon-less packing and flying too. Just a suggestion if you can still change it.
Congratulations and good luck!!

Yes, unless you're flying from Europe there is no reason why you can't make it in ample time to any of the islands. If it's too late, then it is surely a lesson leart.

I am staying at the Outrigger Wailea for one night at the end of a week long stay. About half an hour from the airport. $189 a night from Travelocity. Whatever you do DO NOT stay at the Maui Sea Side. This is a very cheap hotel by the airport...a real dump. United airlines stuck me there once when a flight was cancelled...Good luck!

The hotels by the airport are pretty dumpy and would not be recommended for the first night of a honeymoon!! But since you are arriving late in the eve and leaving in the AM it seems crazy to drive up to Kaanapali. Where are you staying when you return for the last part of the trip?

You may want to go to Wailea (25-30 minutes from airport) the first night, stay at the Outrigger or the Renaissance. You will wake up to a gorgeous morning and can take a walk along the scenic beachwalk before heading to the aiport. This would be especially nice if you arent staying in Wailea when you return.

kihei is only about a 15 minute drive to the airport and there are many reasonably priced hotels and condos there.
