Helicopter to Grand Canyon worth it?

Hello:

I will be in Vegas in April and am debating taking a helicopter trip to the Grand Canyon. One trip is just a fly-over (it is cheaper) and the other one actually lands in the canyon for 20 minutes or so.

The trip is approximately $250 US (almost $400 Canadian). this seems like a lot of money - is it really a once in a lifetime experience? I have taken a helicopter before so the novelty part is just seeing the grand canyon.

Thanks!

I took a helicopter trip into the Grand Canyon in July and welanded on the canyon floor and had a small picnic lounch, which was prepared by the tour company. Like you I have been in a helicopter before, but I thought it would be different to land on the canyon floor. Our pilot did not take us that far into the Canyon as other helicoptors in our group did. We had a smaller helicoptor since there was only three of us. I was dispointed with the part of the Grand Canyon we landed in. It was not as large as what I saw on a recent Grand Canyon trip. It was nice to see Hoover Dam from the air. Oh, by the way, our helicoptor would not start when we went to leave the Grand Canyon and it was hot. Kind of scary coming back to Vegas. Enjoy.

Please don't take a helicopter over the Grand Canyon. The view is no better than from the Rim, and the noise spoils the experience for every single person inside the Canyon.

I know there's always a risk with anything, but seems to me there have been a number of crashes in the Canyon. Maybe a small percentage considering the numbers that go in their on a daily basis, but nonetheless, enough to make me nervous.

the Grand Canyon is one of the most amazing things i have ever seen in my life, along with the volcano on the Big Island. If this is your only opportunity to see it, definitely take the trip.

A better option though, might be a small plane trip that gives you about two hours on the Rim. it's an all day affair however, but i think it's a little bit cheaper. A couple of years ago i did it for $150USD.

You can decide when you get to Vegas because pretty much all the little casino magazines have coupons for helicopter/plane trips to the Grand Canyon.
