Healdsburg and the Camellia Inn

Sorry, I cut myself off. Anyway, the town in beautiful as reported. We strolled the town and shopped in the a.m., and hit the wineries in the afternoon. We especially enjoyed the Raymond Burr vineyard. His birthday was the Saturday that we were there and they were really celebrating. One morning we went to the coast down to Bodega Bay and had lunch at that great restaurant. "The Birds" memorabilia was all around. Another day we took the kids and stolled the baby through the Armstrong National Forest. We felt like we were in the LORD OF THE RINGS, and we did spy one Banana snail. We are already planning our trip back in the fall. We also returned to Sacremento through Napa and were equally unimpressed. Sonoma had that Kauai, laid-back, lord send Sunday feel to it that we love so much. Napa had a more Maui feel. The country was beautiful, but the big wineries were a little off-putting. The restaurants were very good and a great time was had by all.

shanart !

I live about 30 mins from Bodega Bay and the only "great" restaurant I
know of there is The Seaweed Cafe-so
I'm curious where you ate-Lucas Wharf ?

Armstrong Woods is quite special, so called you went there !

Interesting comparison of Sonoma-Kauai
Napa-Maui.
:-?

R5, I don't really know. It was a large restaurant with a gift shop. It was right on the water. We first went to a small place, probably Seaweed Cafe. That was where the fisherman came in. The next place had a goodly amount of "Birds" memorabilia. Husband had the chowder and I had the shrimp/crab salad Louie. It was really good. It was also slightly damp and rainy whern we were there, but it was our first glimpse of the Cal. coast. The flowers were so beautiful. Being from the south, we saw many different types of flowers than we have here. We can't wait to return in the fall.

Glad you liked it! Any word on the Camellia about whether they are selling it or not? I heard at the winery in town that that might happen. SO glad you visited Wilson! They are winning tons of awards and you'll never find them outside of California. Did you eat in Healdsburg?

Yes, Thank you. It was The Tides. it was lovely. I did not hear anything about the Camellia Inn selling out. I hope not. The family was so nice and one felt so very welcomed. It was truly like you were a guest in a private home. We loved the Wilson winery. We live in a dry county in Alabama, so we cannot get anything shipped out to us. Actually, after that fabulous breakfast, and a day of wine tasting we were usually not very hungary. Especially, after the cheese, fruit and wine at the Camellia. Having two young adults and a six-month old baby, we ordered take out several times. All recommended by Lucy, or someone else at the inn. The Chaucuterie, was the one place we did eat. We ate there several times. We enjoyed the fish, steak, salad and the second night, we had two different pasta dishes. The sea bass and steak/mashed potato were delicious. The pasta was not memorable. We saved room for dessert and enjoyed a blueberry cobbler/whipped cream. It was delicious. We enjoyed our first bottle of wine last night. We hauled back a few to enjoy as a fond memory. The wine of choice was from Arista,,we cannot wait to get back. So much closer than Italy.

I forgot to mention, the reason I asked was because Del, Lucy's mom, died in March. She ran the Inn four years ago when we were first there. Lovely woman. I didn't want to start rumors, I just wasn't sure if she was in it for the long haul. Yes, I loved the Camellia, and I hope you have many more visits to CA.

I am so sorry to hear that sad news. They seem to have somebody always on site, so perhaps they intend to stay on. I surely hope so!
