Healdsburg/2 night stay

We're first time Sonoma County visitors Aug '07 - spending 3 nights @Inn at Occidental and 2nights in Headlsburg. Question for posters with first-hand info: we're considering staying @Grape Leaf Inn (Syrah) but can also book Honor Mansion (only Dogwood Rm. is available). Reading past posts: it appears Grape Leaf is in a better location? & which property 'memorable'. DH & I are age 50+ & the purpose of our west coast visit is friends' wedding in San Franciso before we drive north. Any advice for our last two nights before our departure to PA is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Grape Leaf is about a half mile closer to center of town...an easy stroll. We stayed there 2 years ago and absolutely loved it. Richard and Kae are wonderful hosts. The breakfasts are killers! Filling! I read good things about Honor Mansion, too, but can personally vouch for the Grape Leaf.

LLindaC, I appreciate your reply. Walking into town is important. All rooms @Grape Leaf are available; in which room did you stay?
Thanks again!

Good to hear about the Grape Leaf. We will be there in a few months for 3 nights.

We were in the Sangiovese. It was, at most, a 2 minute stroll to town. nice thing is that Healdsburg has many tasting rooms and great restaurants RIGHT THERE! Richard and Kae will help you pick wineries, give directions, etc. They truly are fabulous, professional and very charming.

If you want to stay in private homes or guest apartments check out www.sonomacountyvacations.com You'll get more of a feel of living in this beautiful area. Many are in the rolling hills just outside of Healdsburg..quiet with beautiful views, and very private. It will give you both a bedroom, living room and some sort of kitchen, along with gardens and patio's, pools or hot tubs. Naturally you won't get breakfast served to you, but you can either make your own from your own little kitchen, or go into town and get one at one of the many fine restaurants in this area.
