Hawaii/Interisland Flight and Airport Question

Hi - I've just booked our family vacation to Oahu/Kauai for May and have one piece left...

Do the interisland flights depart from and arrive the international airport or is there a regional airport?

Just trying to decide if I book a flight from Lihue to Honolulu arriving at around 2:30pm if that will give us enough time to connect with our return flight home on AA at 4:30pm.

Any advice would be appreciated!

Thanks,

Interisland and international flights use the same airport, but different terminals. 2 hours seems OK to me assuming there are no problems with the flight from Lihue. http://www.honoluluairport.com/

As noted there are different terminals at HNL. There is a bus shuttle between them called the Wiki-Wiki bus. If you're flying Aloha or Hawaiian inter-island you'll go up one level to catch the shuttle bus to the mainland terminal. You should be fine with 2 hours as you will stay inside the security zone between terminals.

with two hours you have time to stroll from the interisland to the main terminal.

it's making it to your flight on time in lihue, it happens to an ave of five passengers a week.

The interisland terminal is connected to the main terminal, so you can easily get from one to the other. Aloha & Hawaiian use the interisland terminal. You should be able to check your luggage straight through. You won't have to leave the secured area.

There is a smaller commuter terminal that is next to the main terminal. Island Air & go! use this terminal. Its about a 5 minute walk from the main terminal.

as Dusty says, Islandair and Go! use the small commuter terminal. It is outside of security of the main terminal and you would have to deplane there and walk to the terminal and go through security. At times the lines are quite long so I'd recommend using Aloha or Hawaiian when pressed for time.

Thanks guys for the info and links. I was going to book Hawaiian Air (in hopes of NOT getting a prop plane!) so looks like we're good to go. Can't wait for May!

kauai_aka -- hmmm..not getting back on time to Lihue to get to Honolulu...sounds like a ringing endorsement for visiting Kauai
