Hawaii Interisland airfares

Was all ready to (but didn't) book flights on Aloha for Honolulu - Kona for late March. The price just jumped $30 per person since Saturady. Any sense that it might come back down again?

Both Aloha and Hawaiian have implemented 3-tier pricing (with nearly identical airfares). Confirmed, pre-paid reservations only -- no "open" tickets anymore.

Lowest price ($69 each way) sells out quickly. On the more popular days/times, this needs to be booked 30-60 days in advance. Tickets are non-transferable and non-refundable.

Mid-price ($93 each way) can _usually_ be booked less than a month in advance. Tickets are non-transferable and non-refundable.

Highest ($105) can sometimes be booked just one day in advance -- and there's no charge to change reservation.

I'm told AAA members get a discount on Aloha Airlines, haven't tried it yet myself.

Keep in mind late March is spring break travel period, so higher rates are the norm once the cheaper fares sell out.

AAAl will give you a RT rate of $133. Don't forget that you can used United Airline miles for award seats too. We used 20K for the equivilant of 4RT's.

Given my Mexican heritage -- and my husband's apparent fear of anything even slightly spicy! -- I just use my grandmother's recipes and cook at home.

If you collect American Express points you can transfer them to Hawaiian Airlines. At the rate of 1 point per mile you can get a round trip interisland for 10,000 points. Pretty good deal if you compare that 10,000 points will get you a $100 certificate with Hertz.
