Another vote for Maui and Kauai. And I would second the recommendation for the Hyatt on Kauai. That was our first stop on our honeymoon and it is just an incredible resort. It was nice to relax and get pampered there (they have a fabulous spa) immediately after all of the wedding hoopla. Then we moved on to Maui, which is my absolute favorite island. I have been there 7 times. Kauai is definitely more private, secluded ... but Maui has so much to do, great restaurants, shopping etc.

Don't worry, you won't ever find yourself in traffic or waiting in lines on Maui (you would in Oahu).

On Maui I love the Hyatt and the Sheraton on Kaanapali and the Ritz Carlton in Kapalua.

The Grand Wailea is extremely nice as well, although I prefer to stay in the Kaanapali/Kapalua area because it has easier access to Lahaina, the little seaside town. We went into Lahaina on several occasions to eat and shop. It is really cute. Yes there are a lot of T-shirt shops, but there are also some other neat little stores. I would definitely recommend a dinner at Pacific'O.

Also, Ka'anapali Beach is great, and the Whaler's Village there is great to kick around after dinner one night.

The Wailea Coast is a little more secluded, so if that's what you're after, you might prefer that area. After our time on Kauai, we were ready for a little more nightlife, things to do, which you'll find in Lahaina/Kaanapali.

Keep in mind, "nightlife" in Hawaii still does not go very late. We were still in bed by 10 or 10:30 every night I think! Which was fine with us!

Aloha:

I definitly recommend Hawaii for your homeymoon. I have not been there, however, my husband and I were going to bo there for our honeymoon and did not and always kind of wish we had. We had a little more limited budget and did a Caribbean cruise instead. The cruise was wonderful though and we did have a good time, but always think about Hawaii.

Now we are going July 2003 for 2 weeks for our 5 year anniversary. We are going to Kauai, the Big Island and Ohau for one day.

We like R&R. Our travel agent did not recommend Ohau as it is too comercialized. Mauai has a big night life and a lot of hip hop. Both Kauai and The Big Island are more relaxing.

Try booking through an agent. We had great luck and good deals. We are staying at the radisson Kaui and Hapuna beach in the Big Island.

We are extending our layover in Ohau on our last day. We have rented a car and will see Pearl Harbor and Waikiki before we fly home at 10:30pm.

Good luck. My advice is to really explore all of your options, decide how busy you want to be and what you want from a vacation before you decide where to stay.

Good luck with the wedding!!

My vote is Maui....we spent the entire 10 nights of our honeymoon in Maui at the Renaissance Wailea Beach resort.

They had the most lush gardens on the grounds. Also Jamie Lawrence is a great musician who plays in the lobby most evenings. It was nice to sit with a drink and overlook the beach while listening to him play at night.

There is also a spa (I would recommend having a massage on the beach). We did lots of snorkeling, kayaking and just lazing by the pool and beach. Congratulations on your wedding!
