Hawaii entertainment book discounts
I just received my Hawaii entertainment book which I ordered through www.entertainment.com. Just a few notes in case anyone else is thinking about getting it:
First of all, the book definitely seems worth it to me based on what I'm saving on hotel stays alone, plus it has other coupons for regular shopping right where I live (Borders Books, clothing stores, CD stores, etc.). It also has lots of discount coupons on car rentals.
But contrary to what I've read on some other posts I've seen, there IS an Aloha Airlines/Island Air Companion Certificate in the book (at least in the one I received -- "Buy an L Fare Ticket and Bring a Companion Free"). However, while most of the coupons in the book expire November 1, 2000, the airfare coupon expires May 31, 2000. So if you're going after May, don't order the book just for the airline coupon.
Also, be aware that while the book includes a list of hotels (mostly in the U.S., but a few outside the U.S.) that give 50% discounts with the entertainment card, this list is NOT exhaustive and there are definitely hotels out there that give entertainment card discounts that are not listed. So you need to call the hotels you're interested in and ask. Moreover, sometimes you will get one answer from the hotel itself and a different answer from the hotel's central reservations number. For example, Hanalei Bay on Kauai is not listed in the book as accepting the entertainment card discount. However, I called the hotel's 800 number and was told they do accept the discount, but only 30 days prior to arrival. But when I called the 800 number of the chain that owns the hotel (Aston), they were able to reserve the room at a discount regardless of the length of time before arrival.

Marie: It's hard for me to say whether the Hawaii entertainment book is worth it just for restaurants and activities, since I haven't been to Hawaii yet, but I personally would not have bought the book just for the restaurant and activity discounts. We like to eat wherever we want to and get recommendations from locals rather than seeking out the places that accept discounts (plus something tells me that a lot of these restaurants with coupons in the book may be of the ultra-touristy variety rather than great local places with the best food). Also, be aware that the book has a lot more discounts for the island of Oahu than it does for, say, Kauai, so it may depend on which islands you're going to.
